Great, it still received overwhelmingly positive reviews for being a work of fiction

NO LEGO MOVIE

At least they got their song in there, but I can't believe it didn't get some love for the screenplay. I still need to see a couple of these, but so far Grand Budapest was the most impressive effort. It wasn't really a departure for Anderson, but it was Wes on roids.

Guardians might bat .000. Too bad it's up against Interstellar & Budapest in visual catagories. Not sure how they didn't get a costume nod.

So did I. He truly deserved it.

Patricia Arquette is an ok actress with an amazing keen sense to find the right well written script IMO...her performances never really impress me too much

No "LEGO Movie" for animated film has a legit case for biggest snub in history.

Far too many movies nominated for Best Picture. I remember the good old days when it was only 4. There is no way 8 best picture caliber films were made in 2014

Just got out of American Sniper. It was good, but not Best Picture worthy IMO. That movie was not better than Nightcrawler, Gone Girl, Wild, etc.

David Fincher should have been nominated for Best Director for "Gone Girl." I think working with Affleck hurt him, but if anything two great directors getting along so well is worthy enough. With him out of contention, I hope Wes Anderson wins for Grand Budapest hotel. What a beautiful movie. Flawlessly directed.

Rosamund Pike should win Best Actress.

Pulling for Whiplash for Best Picture. And hand Best Supporting Actor to Simmons.

I loathed HTTYD2. I'm going to start a thread about how much it sucked tomorrow. It seriously represents everything that is wrong with this country. I'm not really even kidding.

Do it!

I didn't like the first one at all, and I've heard mixed responses about this one but for some reason the public loves it?

every year the Oscars prove to be the biggest joke ever

too many ordinary or crappy movies/performances nominated

life itself? nope. Dawn of the planet of the apes? nope

It is good to see that birdman will rack up at the awards. Keaton is so god damn awesome
quote:

Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”

no one ever tell me that motion capture isn't acting. 90% of this performance was narration. And her performance was ordinary

quote:

“The Grand Budapest Hotel”

style over substance
quote:

Emma Stone, “Birdman”

it would take all day to criticize the nominations

and while 12 years a slave was ordinary and only won because of the subject matter, Selma is actually really good and got totally snubbed...The academy really fricking hates oprah for some reason.

If it racks up.....

But most likely this is going to be all over the place in terms of wins. I bet best picture is neither Budapest, nor Birdman, which will be funny.

dawn of the planet of the apes gets only one nomination in the most obvious category. I'm not saying Transformers should be nominated, but the academy takes this shite too seriously...Dawn of the planet of the apes should have been nominated in 3 other categories.

Again, rarely do these nominated movies stand the test of time because they aren't memorable. they aren't memorable because they aren't special.

Look at the movies that won best picture the years Raiders of the Lost Ark, Airplane, Empire, or any iconic non art house flick was released...what a fricking joke. This is why I have never watched the Academy Awards. The one year a movie really racked up that I felt was the best movie that year was "as good as it gets"
