Id give it to Whiplash.

Agree, but I would be shocked if it won. (JK Simmons should be a lock for supporting actor). I enjoyed Birdman also. Checking out American Sniper this weekend. Opinions are mixed on this board, but I have read quite a number of glowing reviews of Eastwood's latest. Will reserve judgment until viewing.

I also think Chazelle should have been nominated. Whiplash SHOULD win IMO. It never will though.

Happy to see Lego Movie left out. The worst animated film that I've seen in years.

NO LEGO MOVIE

I saw this and Boxtrolls, Big Hero 6, and HTTYD 2.

Boxtrolls does not belong with those Four. Don't know about the others.

I loved The Lego Movie. I bought it. My daughter and I watch it all the time. I have an Emmet shirt.

That being said, "Everything Is Awesome" being nominated for an Oscar?

"Everything is Aweeesssome!
Everything is cool when you're part of a team.
Everything is Aweesooommmmee!
When you're living a dream."

Repeat. Again. And Again.

No Gone Girl or Foxcatcher for Best Picture? Especially when American Sniper & Selma are nominated....

Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me if Selma won.

I'm glad Whiplash got a nomination for Best Picture. Very surprised Foxcatcher didn't get a nomination; it was easily one of the best movies of the year.

I'm also glad Whiplash was nominated. It will be that film that a ton of people will watch after the nominations and rave about. Also, glad to see JK Simmons up for BSA.

The fact Foxcatcher & Gone Girl aren't up for Best Picture is head scratching.

With that being said, I hope The Imitation Game wins.

Same. I think Boyhood, Birdman, and Selma - though all good - are not quite as good as The Imitation Game.

Gone Girl is a great movie and one of my favorites of the year, but it's not really Best Picture material IMO. I wouldn't consider it a snub.

No Oyelowo.
Huge snub IMO. He deserved a nomination.

Actress in a Leading Role
Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”
Reese Witherspoon, “Wild”
Tough call between these two. Both great performances. I hear Julianna Moore is the favorite, though; I haven't seen Still Alice.

Bennett Miller, “Foxcatcher”
Weird. Nom'd for Director but not for Best Picture. I thought it was a great movie.
quote:

Patricia Arquette, “Boyhood”
So overrated. I've watched this movie twice now, and there is nothing special about her performance.

Actor in a Supporting Role
J.K. Simmons, “Whiplash”
Edward Norton, “Birdman”
Tough call.

Grand Budapest is the film I enjoyed the most and thought was the best, but I think Birdman will clean up the awards.
Anybody else dislike the ending to Birdman?

I'm shocked that Lego Movie was snubbed off the list, but I personally think HTTYD 2 is the most deserving of animated films.
