Can't we just wait and see with Steele?

I mean we jumped all over the guy and he's never coached a game for us. Newsflash: Baylor had 0 talent when he was coach, and Clemson was just starting to get their act together. I'm not defending him, I'm providing accurate context. We have GREAT talent on defense, and honestly you don't need to be a genius to run this group of 8-11 future NFL draft picks. Furthermore, he's a great recruiter so that talent isn't going anywhere. As an added bonus we won't have to wait long to see if he's got the chops, since we have MSU and Auburn in weeks 2 and 3.

That's why I'm doing
I'll try and reserve my melt until I see what he does with LSU talent

why did we have to hire a "wait and see guy?" Les was given a ton of cash to fill an extremely attractive job and this is what he came back with

I've seen him coach enough games as a neutral observer with Steele having no connection to LSU to know he's a shitty hire and the worst hire we could've made.

A competent coach doesn't require NFL talent to produce a competent unit.
Steele has been given numerous opportunities as a defensive coordinator on teams with plenty of talent - yet he has failed miserably every single time.
If a college coach needs to be surrounded by NFL talent in order to succeed, then they're probably not a very good coach - and Steele has demonstrated that he isn't a very good DC.

Technically anybody we hire is going to be a "wait and see" guy considering he hasn't coached a game for us yet.
Unless I missed a thread about a sports almanac found in a Delorean.

You and I must be the only ones who don't have either. LSU really screwed up by not letting TD personalities coach by committee. They have it all figured out. The only thing I can't figure out is why no one on here has been hired to replace Miles. If the current admin has the internet they have a whole host of choices. Oh yeah it's that damn Miles Clause.

Right, this gives everyone at least 2-3 more years of excuses. His scheme is going to be "complex" and take a couple of years to implement...
At least we may be able to stock the cupboards for the next guys.

The LAST thing this guy is gonna do here is try to change everything and run a 3-4. He's got all the talent in place to run a nasty 4-3, let's just see if he can drive the Ferrari in a straight line, so to speak, and hold MSU and Auburn to less than 30.

This hire was not supposed to be a "let's wait and see".
We're LSU, we needed a name and someone with a proven record.
We got 2 weeks of waiting and a position coach who has shite the bed more times than an infant.

I'm providing accurate context.
He's been a failure as a DC everywhere he has been. Resume isn't relevant?
How do people get hired in your line of work?

Nope. Too busy posting with my emotions.

"wait and see" is what you would say if we hired someone like Clark or Orgeron, because they would be an unknown. steele is not. he's had several opportunities and he's been bad at all of them.
I'd rather an unknown up and comer compared to a known failure.

I only started reading the rant around 2010, so I don't really have a sense of scope about the insanity going on at the moment?
Were 2008 and 2009 this bad?

I agree.
I wasn't sure exactly how to feel when I heard about the hire.
After talking with a few of my friends that know more about it than I do, I feel better about it.
