Veteran coach Kevin Steele will return to the field for Alabama in 2014 after serving as the Crimson Tide's Director of Player Personnel in the 2013 season. In Steele joining the on-field coaching staff, Alabama adds not only an experienced assistant and respected teacher, but one of the south's best recruiters.

Steele was hired at Florida State, where he played a key role in helping the Seminoles land one of the nation's top classes on an annual basis. Steele did particularly well in plucking talented players from the Carolinas, including current Pittsburgh Steeler linebacker and former top 100 prospect, Lawrence Timmons, beating out Clemson, Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina.

Thank God. We've done so poorly on that recently and need all the help we can get.

The only thing funnier than this lame hire is the fact that posting anything positive about him pisses rantards off.

We could have hired a much better DC and then hired Ed O, who is a better recruiter than Steele.

You see my point?

They don't want to read anything positive. They would rather raise pitchforks with the rest of the mob. Thanks for sharing.

There's a difference between a mob mentality and a rational one. This was an immense blow to the program so people have a right to be upset.

step away from the computer and calm down.

Steele is one of the best recruiters in the country. Even without him we had a #2 class last year and we have gotten good guys this year.

He has ALOT of experience in both college and the NFL.

The only big ? is his scheme. You can't say that because he had one year at Clemson that he is going to be horrible here.

Reprimanding grown men on the internet for lamenting the degradation of a hobby they enjoy is lame as frick IMO.

How is this a blow? Because we didn't hire the rumored candidates that may or may not have ever been offered the job.

We have no idea how good or bad this hire will turn out.

hiring someone that Saban was willing to pay $700K/year, a recruiting juggernaut, and has DC experience (Pellini had co-DC exp) is just so bad

We're okay recruiting-wise, it's coaching we need.

Yeah, since we don't have a sample from which to evaluate the hire or anything.

Speaking of Clemson, the players he recruited there had the best defense this year. Just saying.
