“There may be a place in the world where you can be yourself,” he continued. “Be honest with yourself and do not go and kill innocent journalists. And if you do not like it here because humorists you do not like make a newspaper, may I then say you can frick off.”

**Not a troll post**

Is it sad that something as horrific has to happen to someone other than the US for the rest of the world openly condemn these assholes?

I mean, 9/11 was HUGE, but I don't recall news outlets globally printing anything other than "We support the US.. blah, blah, blah.."

Am I off base here?

The biggest difference is the outside world realizes this was really an attack by a Muslim extremist group, unlike 9/11 which was a conspiracy by our own government.

We've stopped condemning them. Our gov't refuses to show solidarity or join the "war on radical islam" and is still whining about stereotyping and Islamophobia.

It seems people only condemn when they have just been attacked, no matter where they are.

Last time I checked, the Netherlands weren't recent victims of radical Muslim attacks... at least that's what this thread is about

I can't say I disagree with anything he said. I wish somebody over here had the balls to say that.

I'm by no means condoning the behavior... obviously, but is anyone else kind of like; "See? It's pretty bad when it happens at home... isn't it"

Exactly.

The biggest difference here is that there is no America or Bush involved. Before, some would seek to argue that America bore some responsibility, brought some of this on to itself, etc.

There is no America to blame for this event. It is purely a freedom of expression issue and that is universal.

Wasn't it in the Netherlands where the Muslim guy killed Van Gogh's grandson over some transgression against Islam?

I wonder if the "radical muslims" are at least (a little bit) thinking.. "Yeah, we may have gone too far with this one"?

eta: surely most of the "believers" will cheer in public, but some of them must be thinking that behind closed doors... ya know?
