Traditional Bow Hunting

What's up fellas? New here, but have lurked for awhile.
Anyway, wanted to know what your traditional bow setup is. Recurve? Long bow? Put down the compound for awhile and started shooting a recurve not long ago and it's quite addicting. Also, any tips for beginner traditional bow shooters?

I tried it for a season but didn't shoot at anything.
The season after that I wussed out and didn't feel like putting in that much practice time to shoot well enough to hunt with one.
They are much funner to shoot, but require time and discipline.

I haven't hunted with my longbow this year at all. Just made me realize that. But I shoot a Falco 66" 50# I love it. Never killed anything with it though. Missed a doe 2 years ago. It's fun.

I've been shooting a Black Widow at 50# and i love it. Just need to get the technique down and practice.

Welcome.....
I have a 50# Howatt Recurve with a rug rest/shelf using bare finger release. I shoot "instinctively", which means I wing it and hope I am close. A few years back I got good enough to consistently hit a 4" bulls-eye at 25 paces so I tried hunting a couple times. I did not kill a deer with it, but I intimidated the hell out of one.
I have not hunted with it in years and now only use to shoot (at) garfish off the dock at night.
Have you shot fletchless arrows to select the spine, and adjust brace height and knock position? When I was setting mine up that was supposedly the key to perfecting arrow flight. Fletch the arrows after flight is good. I went to the bowshop in pearl river.

I might return to it one day, I just didn't want to wound a deer just because I didn't practice enough.

Mine is a #60 predator take down, which is 5 or so #'s more than I should shoot. (Probably why I don't shoot it well.)
Arrows are easton aluminum 2018's
125 grain broad heads. Magnus I think.
I also have a #50 browning wasp from the 60's or 70's, but it doesn't seem to have good power with the arrows I've tried.

Started messing around with my compound a couple of years ago after a friend who shoots natural with no sights talked me into it.
After a couple of weeks of shooting everyday you begin to see how your bow shoots at what aiming point with your eye.
I've shot a few split tail deer at about 30-40 yds and it's built my confidence. Target practice I can hit a 6 inch group out to about 50 yards. Wouldn't shoot at a buck that far but it's a cool new way to hunt.
After a couple of weeks of shooting everyday you begin to see how your bow shoots at what aiming point with your eye.

My first experience with a recurve was bow fishing in the marsh for reds and it was a blast. I can only imagine how it would be hunting for deer.

The gf's dad is big into and got me setup. The bow I'm shooting is actually his. He's big into it and tuned up the bow/arrows for me.

If you are around the baton rouge area look up the ARTAC club. They are on facebook and have a web page. They put on trad shoots every year and are based out of waddel refuge on flannery rd. in BR.They have a lot of good guys willing to help you out. Membership is cheap. I am a member.
My main bow is an acadian woods hybrid lonbow @ 50#.Missed my first deer with it this year.LOL After hunting with a compound for over 20 years I find it a lot more enjoyable to shoot.

haven't hunted with mine this year. May try to shoot a couple rabbits. I shoot a Martin Mamba,and also a custom longbow made by a friend.

I agree as traditional is all about ... practice, practice, practice
I've owned 4-5 Black Widows, 2 Roy Halls , and even collected vintage 60's/70's Bear bows. Sold everything as my heart wasn't in it . I do hunt with a compound and have 3 Elite bows
traditional archery will make you humble
