The Flash/Arrow: New Spinoff Series Teased

The CW now stands for The Comic World

With the success of The Flash and Arrow on The CW (the former's premiere was the highest-rated telecast in the network's history) and an ever-increasing number of comic book series on television, fans are wondering when - not if - we'll see the Arrow/Flash universe expand.
Soon enough, it seems. At today's TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed that they were in very early talks to do an additional spinoff series. The question is: Which character might we see get his or her own show?
IGN had the opportunity to sit down with Brandon Routh about his Arrow character Ray Palmer/Atom (stay tuned for more on that) where we asked if he thought they may be leading towards a spinoff featuring his character.
"With any character you bring on this show that's a possibility, depending on how the fans react and the character is received and developed," the actor reflected. "You know they've shown with The Flash that just being a part of Arrow that it can work. It's exciting. The sky's the limit. DC and The CW have done a great job with the two shows and the platforms in terms being their own entities. What the future holds, who knows? But anything is a possibility."
During The Flash/Arrow panel, executive producer Greg Berlanti was asked if an Atom spinoff was something he was actively pursing, to which he said: “We’re in very early talks in a very general way that we haven’t gone deeper on yet."
Routh added that he was initially hesitant to return to play another comic book hero after playing - what was to him - the pinnacle of superheroes: Superman in 2006's Superman Returns. The actor was a big fan of Arrow, however, and has had "an amazing experience" on the show. "I'd like to keep playing the character as much as possible," Routh concluded.
For now, it looks like Atom is in the lead to get his own show. We will keep you updated as details emerge.

First the internet bubble, then the housing bubble... now we have the superhero bubble.

Any chance Atom shows up in a JLA movie? I don't like how DC has seperate movie and tv universes.

i posted a link yesterday that went unnoticed but they are also expanding it with Vixen on their digital site. its an animated show but its in the same universe and will feature both flash and arrow. it is also being over seen by Guggenheim.

I would've taken Routh over Cavill for Man of Steel. And this isn't a knock on Cavill in any way.
I hope Green Lantern is the next superhero to get his own show.

Not the Atom from the CW universe.

Same here. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me. But that argument has been beaten to death in several other threads, so no use in beating that horse again.

The showrunners have hinted in past interviews that there was another show on the table, so I figured the most likely would be Atom. It has a fairly well known actor already playing him. And the character is already getting familiarized with the target fanbase on a fairly successful Arrow. Seems like the easiest to move to their own show.
I think CW has found a niche that they like and it seems to work for them. I could see them adding a couple more heroes to their repertoire, and if Vixen is successful as an online product, then they could really jump into the superhero/DC pool with both feet. Can you imagine 4 or 5 different DC superhero shows going on, with yearly crossover episodes and maybe even a Justice League style crossover mini-series during winter breaks? But that would be awfully ambitious and they'd be risking saturating the market. But it could be epic if they could pull something like that off an a single network like CW.

Atom has too big of a role in the arrow universe currently to do a spin off. Id rather them take the Flash route and introduce the with a crossover episode with a different hero and then build a spinoff from that

while I use to be in this boat... I am no longer in this boat. DC gets around the timeline issue by having completely separate universes (dimensions) in their Comic Books. I feel that having a separate world for the TV shows and Movies matches their comic books this way much better.

I think they could go ahead and finish his storyline as it pertains to Arrow this season. Right now his biggest role on Arrow is as a "spoiler" for the Oliver/Felicity relationship. I realize they are hinting at some much bigger storylines with OMAC teases, but those storylines could easily be moved over to the Atom series. As of right now, no one on team arrow has seen any of the OMAC references. I could easily see them using that to build up an initial storyline in an Atom show.

this could be the case. however, i think the atom character helps them branch out storywise for the Arrow show. flash could never work longterm on the Arrow show. however, Atom fits perfectly. The showrunners seem to like hinting at future storylines while dealing with the current seasons story.
so i could see season 4 being all about OMAC and those stories.

I would prefer a Brave and the Bold type of series. Have Atom anchor it for a while, bring in Firestorm, Wildcat, introduce some new characters, have Arrow and Flash appear in an episode each season.
A shame that Blue Beetle wasn't an option. That would make for an amazing series.

A Brave and the Bold show would be pretty darn cool. Have different characters team up for 4 or 5 episode story arcs, over the course of a 23/24 episode season. They have enough side characters now to probably pull of the first season. They could match someone like Black Canary and Wildcat, Atom and Firestorm, or even a Birds of Prey with Canary, Huntress, and Felicity. Throw in some new characters and you would have enough to do a season. But that would really ambitious and probably too difficult to pull together.

Sounds like Les Miles being asked about the DC search.
