I have watched the last 2 tiger games and have noticed something,
Why are the big men settling for long jumpers instead of trying to rip the damn goal down like in years past?
Go Tigers!

Got to show the NBA scouts that range.

Just kidding.

No wait, only half kidding.

The last two opponents have almost exclusively used zone on us and we have yet to find a way to get penetration by post players. The guards have gotten to the rim and are occasionally able to get the ball to a post player in a good spot to slam it down, but overall we have been unsuccessful getting Martin or Mickey in a position to have a high percentage shot.

Both of our post players are not strong enough back to basket players to get inside position and keep it. We also have mo PG who can get the ball to them in that sweet spot on the block when they do swing the ball. M&M have had a few nice high low passes in preconference play but so far nothing in conference play . Our best shot options come off transition . It is what it is.

Gray doesn't drive the ball often enough. The team stands around too much. We are a much better team when we keep moving and pass the ball. However, we also seem to give up more turnovers when we do that. A pick and roll every once in a while might help. We just aren't playing well as a team right now. If not for several big individual performance, we would have lost several more games. That's what I see at least.

Thanks S.O.S makes sense! I miss the days when our big men played with aggression down low and wouldn't be denied around the goal.

We simply don't have low block post up players. Mickey did have that one great spin move and dunk play, but he's not strong enough to be a post player; that's why we run double high and high-low sets.

The lack of size in our big men showed during the Missouri game. I was excited for Elbert Robinson coming to LSU. He is a big boy. I thought he would be able to do what Post, center for Missouri, was able to do us. Just get in the lane and post up back down the smaller forwards or centers and get two feet in the lane and score easily. Maybe Robinson will pick up on that as the season goes on.

Certainly you can't teach that size. However, young Robinson appears to be experiencing literal growing pains. He's a step slower than he was a year ago, in spite of losing around 40 lbs. As his body matures and he continues to strengthen let's hope we see him become a force, particularly on defense and rebounding. Also needs to work on his hands; has a tendency to fumble the ball a lot, which sometimes stems from lack of confidence.

I honestly thought he looked very slow in film I saw on him last year. Didn't think he was a great fit, but I am still hopeful we can find a way to use him.

And what is up with Josh Gray. He played well in the first 10 games or so but in SEC play he has stunk it up

Gray had 15 points and a 6:2 AST:TO with 3 steals against UGA... That's a damn good game in most books.

Gray should be fine and remember he is coming off the injury. He played well against UGA. Trying to be a distributor is a tough change for some one used to being the main scoring option.

Finally! Without looking, I'd say he has more turnovers than points this year.

63 assists
45 turnovers

Still far too many turnovers but nothing close to <1 AST/TO

I actually thought he played sub par with the exception of one game in the early season, showed jitters against Missouri, but looked very good against Georgia.

He should be good going forward but don't look at his point totals to see if he is doing a good job.

I believe starters may need change or at least we should be versatile enough to change starters to fit the opponent. I like Hornsby but when he is not shooting 3s he seems to be more limited at guard. He hustles and plays with aggression needed but I believe Quarterman does a much better job of that and he does a better job of creating and plays better on defense. I would like to see him start along with Gray at guard. With Patterson off the bench at point and Hornsby off the bench at the 2. Obviously you leave M&M as starters and 5th guy is open for debate as well as I haven't seen much separation with the rest of the 4s and 5s on the bench (Robinson, Malone, Bridgewater,..etc)
