There's a bunch of reforest around Merryille, LA that I see all the time and it's all this tree. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of acres planted with these. I've never seen em before.

They have compound leaves, the bark has a reddish tint to it, and the branches start all the way at the bottom of the trees. Also they are apparently oblivious to cold since none of them have dropped their leaves.

Does not look to be native. I have no idea, which really bothers me.

That was my first thought, then said, "No way" and moved on. The leaves sure come out like that.

Looks like a species of Eucalyptus. Lots of folks are starting to experiment with different species of Eucalyptus in plantations. Supposedly there is a lot faster return on $ as pulp, opposed to loblolly.

I like evergreen aspect, rapid growth, and strong smell.

I bet strategic plantings would be useful for bowhunting.

I have been told they are "eucalyptus trees" there are tons of them south of lake charles also. Supposed to be the next cash cow.
Haven't seen any Koala bears though!

This just happens to be on my desk right now.

Ignore anything else on my desk. Probably kinda confidential stuff.

Don't kuala bears eat them and stay high as the dickens off of it?

Try chewing a few leaves and report back your findings...

People have been doing this for hundreds of years. Look at Cali and what it has fricked up for them since the 1840's.

That was our first thought, too, but didn't figure that was actually what they were.

I should have said that more people in Louisiana and south MS have started experimenting more with it in recent years.

FWIW, I do not like moving away from Pines. I'd rather not see the entire country planted in loblolly pine, but it's better than bringing in eucalyptus.

And California can't get any more fricked up.

I'll have to be on the look out for those. I think I recall seeing this tree before and not knowing what it was.

If I'm not mistaken, I think those are simple leaves. Tenfoe can probably chime in with more info than I can.

I wasn't trying to say anything derogatory about your comment, I was just adding to it.
