Ducks move around a lot. Some holes are better some years and some years it's a wash.
A large problem is a generation gap with lots of novice hunters new to the sport. It wasn't that long ago when the limit was three and before that there was a point system.
There are plenty of ducks now. They do not leave until there is a lack of food which is not going to happen due to record farming, and warmer weather trends. The northern birds will stay up north if they have food. When snow covers up ag fields they leave. They will go back if the snow melts.
Some birds will stay on the coast all winter if there is food. We have not had many hurricanes lately so the coastal marsh is full of duck food.
The bad hunters will either get better or find a new hobby. The weather is another story.

Comparing Ga & La is lunacy but the cheese dicks (Atlanta) that have raided the public water in Georgia have ruined it. I hunt on private ponds and it's somewhat successful but what Seminole & Eufaula use to be make it sad & depressing.

As much as I don't like sky busting, lung clearing hail calls at birds that are flying away, and the constant rumble of mud motors on public land....
The biggest thing that pisses me off is when someone steals your blind. No, I don't mean beats you to a blind, I mean when someone goes and tears down something that you took time and effort out of your schedule to go out there preseason and build a frame and cut brush, then someone takes your blind material and puts it on theirs.

I try not to hunt on weekends (working shift work gives me that luxury) so most of the time, we hunt with the weather when it coordinates with our shift schedule, haven't hunted out there since the split, but I know some of the other guys who originally built that blind there (8+ years ago). It usually gets banged up but we usually bring brush every hunt... when we got there half of the frame was missing.
Happened last year on a new blind we built before the second split. We killed 9 this morning hunting till 1:30... should have been out of there with a 2 man limit much earlier, had the boat been half way concealed.

This, there's always been a few but these days it's bad. Guys have no problem looking dead at you and throwing out decoys 100 yds away, others come nosing around after you stop shooting to see exactly where you are hunting and my favorite was the 3 boats that pulled into my decoys last month in surface drives, shut down and started talking to me. When I asked them to leave they threw out a couple BL cans and left. That's how I know all BL drinkers are trashy

I have been duck hunting for nearly 45 years now and I too have observed the decline in efforts to decoy the ducks. It seems the increase in sky busting has really increased in the last 15 years or so. In fact, the state game and fish commission has imposed a 15 shell limit at the public land I hunt. But all this has accomplished is not attempting to chase cripples since 3 - 4 shells will be used in the chase.
It seems this generation of duck hunters is just too impatient to decoy ducks. I blame it on today's society.....impatience is rampant. But what they are missing is the true joy of duck hunting. The adrenaline rush of watching a group of mallards flutter down in flooded timber is unbelievable.
Will you decoy every duck you see? No! But sky busting only educates the ducks which makes it harder which leads to more sky busting. It is an endless circle.

As a third year duck hunter, only this year have I started having any regular success with getting ducks to come into the decoys. I still shoot probably half of my ducks when they're flying overhead or making a close pass instead of waiting for them to come into the dekes. (When I don't take these shots, they often don't come in). Let me reiterate that I rarely take a shot past 30 yds unless it is a follow up shot on a wounded duck.
Do you guys not take these passing shots? Do you take shots at wood ducks fly-bys? Forgive my inexperience.
I do agree that the most beautiful shots I have taken are on ducks just frozen in mid air trying to land in the decoys. I just don't get those shots too often.

We skybusted our arse off, this past Saturday. Do I like doing it? No. Am I a noob to duck hunting? Not even close. Do I know how to decoy birds? Yes. Was there any hope of decoying birds when hunting next to a sanctuary full of them? No. (We did get a few to fall in, and they didn't make it out.) Do I feel bad for skybusting? No. Will I be crucified for these comments? Yes.

I got something to bitch about too.
My blind was flipped over the past week. Gosh darn trespassing scum. we were getting ready to sell it for $2,000

That ain't no joke. I was freezing! Below freezing temp, breaking ice, hole in waders, and standing in water up to waist. I was ready to carry my arse by shooting hour.
