Don't know about "these days" and I'm not a grandfather, but I've seen this going on for at least 30 years. So, it's not a very new thing.

Amen! It's been nearly 30 years ago that Federal and Mossberg teamed up to give us the 3 and 1/2 inch magnum shotshell. Going much further back, wasn't it the legendary Nash Buckingham and Winchester that developed and popularized the 3-inch magnum back in the 30's? Remember when "buffered" loads became commercially available back in the late-70's. All so we can shoot more shot further and kill ducks farther away than before.

This is nothing new. I've been hunting ducks since the early-70's and I heard nearly everything on this thread from the old-timers of that era too.

Didn't you just start duck hunting a couple of years ago and we're asking all kinds of questions as you came into the sport?

Deer hunting isn't much different in that aspect. Lots of people that want to be facebook and Instagram outdoorsmen but other than weekend between November and January they never see the outdoors other than maybe a chartered fishing trip or showing their lawn guy what landscaping needs done.

You can post plenty of pics when you can afford the high dollar deer lease and pay a local to do all your planting or pay all that money for a good blind somewhere where only a blind man couldn't get a stringer of ducks.

Can you please explain your point? Are you mad because you don't kill big deer and lots of ducks? I don't understand. Do you think people that kill big deer and lots of ducks are rich and have lawn guys ?

Change of subject but last week when it was 20 degrees in south La my buddy was driving through Mizzoo when it was -9 ( or some cold shite ). And the ponds are kept from freezing and u can not fit another duck or goose in these ponds. We would not be complaining about stupid noob sky blasters if this was not happening. How cold does it need to be to push theses birds down?

I hunted with some friends of mine that farm in Kansas the other day. They told me that their ducks do not leave from there until they get enough snow to completely cover the dry field food. Said it doesn't matter how cold it is, only how much snow they get.

This is from me in another thread. Just saying if there were more ducks we wouldn't care.

To drake
And I understand its not the temp its the food that keeps the ducks up North. If the ponds were frozen more ducks would be down. I'm saying they are keeping the ponds from freezing!

I'll help y'all beat this dead horse a little bit more...

In my opinion the root of most of the modern day "problems" with duck hunting is the stretch of 6 duck limit and 60 day seasons we are having. I could be wrong, but this is the longest stretch of this liberal of seasons and bag limits we have had in most of our lifetimes. The long season and large limits has opened up a huge commercial aspect to duck hunting that wasn't sustainable in the past. Follow the money...

Lots of dollar bills able to be made in duck hunting now: lots of extremely expensive shotguns, duck calls, decoys, apparel, facepaint, hunting shows, etc.

If you pay attention to this website you will see quite often people starting threads about getting into duck hunting while not coming from a duck hunting background. Nothing wrong with that, but chances are these people just getting started are not going to know any better when it comes to hunting etiquette unless they have an experienced person schooling them up, and I tend to believe that lots of people that have duck hunted their whole lives still don't know what they are doing..

Long story short money has "ruined" the sport

^This is the reason I don't duck hunt. As a non-Louisiana native, duck hunting is stupid expensive. A lot of my coworkers do it and all advise me to not start because it is a huge money pit. I have to believe that the pressure to bring home birds has a lot to do with people taking a chance at passing birds.
