Carrying concealed: Should you involve yourself in a situation?

A recent Handgunner magazine had a good article about concealed carry.
If you are carrying a weapon and see someone getting attacked / robbed should you get involved?
On the one hand there is a responsibility / desire to help others when you can.
On the other, you responsibility to your family to return home safe exceeds anything concerning a stranger.
Thoughts?

Entirely dependent on the situation for me. Does the attacker have a gun? I'd be much less likely to get involved. Is he beating someone to death with his fists? I'd probably be more likely to do something. I'd definitely not get involved over a robbery, only if someone else's life was in immediate danger.

My thoughts are generally this: carry for personal (and family) protection.
With that said, I have, in the past, been known to jump in and save strangers where fisticuffs/blunt weapons were involved. I just don't know about going in guns wielded though. I'd have to be put in the situation to see what my heart would have me do. (I generally don't listen to my brain when I should)

Someone's life better be in danger, not their purse

I know in TN the general rule of thumb is if the situation can escalate to immediately involve you then you can intervene. I always operated under the rules of if I can avoid a fight I do. Not worth the time, paperwork and potential bodily harm that could come my way. My life is the most important one to me

Funny this topic came up. I was at Tanger earlier today looking for a new suit to wear to a wedding I have to attend in a few weeks. I'm in the back of the store browsing inventory, theres a couple workers and another couple in the store. The husband goes to the dressing room and some thug walks in the door. He starts hitting on this guys wife and she is trying to be polite by telling him she is there with her husband blah blah blah. Well the thug obviously isn't there to shop because he never looks at a single stitch of clothing and just stands at the register for a while. I decided that it wasn't worth it to stick around and be faced with the decision to have to draw down on this guy or not so I GTFO before it came to that since he was obviously up to something and it wasn't shopping

you never know what point you are getting involved?
Say a LSU fan was getting mugged by Florida fan. but all you witness when you get there you see LSU fan kicking the hell out of the FLa fan so you go to the aid of the original aggressor? its tricky

It's hard to say. Each situation is unique. I agree with whoever said pick your battles.

Definitely situational, but if someone is completely blindsided, I would not consider myself a human being if I sat there and did nothing to help. Not having the ability to help (if I'm injured, multiple attackers, no gun etc.) is a different story.

Since we live in a sue-happy society, it sucks that you only get milliseconds to weigh out the outcomes of getting involved or not. But it's extremely unfortunate that more people don't get involved for fear of a lawsuit. When SHTF usually every person just pulls out his and her phone and does nothing.

Definitely situational with one exception
Child in danger
Must get involved in, though not in a rash manner, use your head.

I strongly suggest you guys check out Active Self Protection at this link and on Facebook. They refer to this phenomenon as the "Bystander Effect." There are also numerous useful self defense encounters in REAL situations. It will also make you realize just how heartless the criminal element is. Also expect to be a little sick by the pure evil you see. Here's one example:
Small Town Armed Robbery Ends Badly for Robber
He breaks down the best course of action in each video and tells what the victim did/could do better in each scenario. Invaluable information...

1+, especially if the "situation" is actually a domestic situation. If one intervenes in what turns out to be a domestic problem, one may end up being the bad guy if the wife/so/girlfriend later changes their story.

No, unless it directly involves me or my family! I would call 911 and walk away!
