What's the best and cheapest way of doing this? I'll actually be in Baton Rouge for business next week. Will I be able to fly back with one myself, or should I just go ahead and pay someone to ship it to my house?

you can usually carry those on the plane with you. Unless you want to pay $40-$60 to ship.

Really? I thought I might have to pack it in a checked bag, but I might actually try to bring one back if they let me carry it on.

When you only have one once a year they are not bad.

OP...just have it shipped. Even if TSA lets you through security with one...will be a PITA to travel with one. You would have to basically hold it the entire time to not worry about it getting squished.

Then you are eating the wrong king cakes.

OP, most places will ship them for $15 or so.

Check Haydel's or Randazzo's.

My parents send me one every year. Like someone else posted...it's $40-60.

Well that's the cost. $40 will get you a very basic traditional king cake with no fillings from Gambinos.

$40-$60 must include the price of the cake.

I ship quite a few every year and I don't pay that much, just for the shipping.

Yeah, it might be too much of a hassle to have it as carry-on. I might just go ahead and pay for shipping.

Yes it does. My parents always insist on sending me one every year. I think this year I will tell them to not worry about it. I know they like sending them to me but they are on a very limited budget right now.

NP, nurse.

OP already had the cake. I just meant he could ship it for $15 or so.

I sure wouldn't drag it on to a plane.

I buy from Gambinos, they are very reasonably priced, and shipping is included.
