Say someone approaches you about buying something you have that wasn't for sale. You quote a price you'd accept. They counter offer less money. You say, "no thanks don't worry about it". They say "okay I'll pay full asking". Is it okay to walk away because you don't want to deal with them?

You never have to sell something you don't want to.

My thinking is when they tried to renegotiate, it opened the door for me to walk. Had they agreed to asking price from the beginning, they could have bought it.

Blue rides in wheels and the train is grey. Ducks because rock is harder than cotton.

Me? I know I can walk.

I'm talking about ethics.

I think if you back out at that point you owe them a chaperoned dance with your fairest daughter at Johnson's Barn.

The item wasn't "for sale". The guy just really wanted it. He passed on my offer, and now I want to pass on his counter and end negotiations.

I'm not dumb though. I can sense the ethical uneasiness of my position.

Walking away from someone who offered "full asking price" only because they countered one time is fricking retarded when it comes to business. No offense but if you don't get that you are not a businessman.

Ethics? The guy randomly asked to buy something from you.

I always try to get a lower price no matter how low the original price is and I expect everyone to do the same!

Getting full asking price, and getting full asking price plus insulted are two different things in my opinion.

Truthfully, I didn't want to sell so I quoted high. I know now I shouldn't have quoted a price at all. However, technically my response to their counter offer was I'll pass. I considered it over then. Now they've come back trying to reopen talks.

What if I came in here asking this question as them? Y'all would be saying "you snooze you lose, Baw".

If it's a friend you expect to keep dealing with down the road then you might have a good question. If it's a random stranger, you don't need his permission to walk. Grow a pair.

And btw, it's "renege", not "Re Neg".

Your "problem" is you got insulted and let emotions get in the way of "business". If you are ok with that then that is fine because its your choice, I just would never do business based on emotions.
