I notice that usually LSU's top star player wears #7. Can anyone tell me how & when this tradition started? It's pretty cool, just wondering.

Patrick Peterson wore it and was really good, then Tyrann Mathieu got it cause he wanted it because of PP, then Leonard Fournette wanted it.

Its not really tradition, just a few guys who are all studs wanting to wear the same number.r

This. Not really a tradition like #18 is.

After PP and mathieu had the number it became kinda prestigious to wear it bc the past few year you knew #7 on lsu was a playmaker. It defiantly goes noticed by recruits bc both Kevin toliver and Dylan Moses stated at some point they wanted to wear 7 but fournette got here before them so it's his for now.

tolliver could wear it.

i don't think he and Fournette will see the field at the same time.

but he probably wants hi own number.

Also Moses can wear it because fortunate will be gone most likely.

Bert Jones was #7. That's where it started.

Of course, the overwhelming majority on here were many many years away from even being in existence in a physical body to know that.........

Yes others have had it before PP but it didn't have the same meaning and wasn't for the same reason until TM wanted because of PP.

Oh the #7 had one Hell of a lot of meaning before PP wore it. Bert Jones immortalized that number. There was talk of retiring the #7 after Bert Jones graduated so it meant a lot. It still does.

Not saying other great players haven't had it but never heard recruits or new players want it like they do now, but maybe thats because we didn't have social media with so much info in the public domain.

AHHHH...youngsters....brush up on your LSU history ;)

Was bad 'A' watching Trev Faulk & Bradie James man the middle LB spots in 3-4 looks.... # 7 & #11

Will never be a cooler riverboat gambler looking tandem like that again

Edit: maybe it was the nickel looks that had only those 2 back there it's been so long ...but 7/11 was an intimidating combo. Trev declared early thought he going 2nd rd- went UD FA..ugh
