What's the consensus on him taking the job and being head coach in waiting. I personally don't know how I feel.

He's obviously waiting and hoping he gets the Bama gig after Saban retires.
He hasn't been floating his name out there much and he would easily be in line for a good HC job the last few years.

Bama isn't going to hire him when Saban calls it quits. He really needs to consider going out on his own and proving his worth.

Smart must have some baggage and/or completely bombs interviews.... 2-3 years ago he was a hot name and seemed to be in the mix for several HC positions. Now you don't seem to hear his name as much.

Don't be so sure on the Saban influence in Ttown these days. Saban will recommend him. We will just have to see if they bite. Mich St did, LSU didn't (but Nutt wasn't on staff)
