It took Beckwith (just one example), 2 years to learn Chavis system well enough to finally supplant Welter.(think about Jamal Adams too). Like most of you, I was "all for" bringing in a proven commodity at D.C. (LSU being too big of a program to promote from within). But the more I think about it, especially considering the recent developments (other coaches not materializing ). Maybe we should just promote Brick & bring in coach Orgeron. Vs players having to learn a complicated new system.

It took Beckwith so long because Welter was Chavis' pet. Blatant favoritism is what kept KB off the field.

ETA: It's important to keep the long game in mind. You can't just make a hire for the sake of continuity.

YEP! Let's run a 2nd hand version of Chavis' D so we don;t have to go through the trouble of learning a new defense.

Will you be happy if we promote Brick and don't land Coach O? Because that's what I think will happen, unfortunately.

I'd be more excited with a big name hire like anyone else, but you make a decent point. If Orgeron is the recruiter people claim he is, then maybe he can keep the D line loaded with more talent than we've had over the past few years.

This arguing point is played out. At least make an attempt to understand how football usually works.

I still believe we bring in someone new. If CLM truly wanted Brick to be the next DC i'm fairly confident that would have happened already. Unlike most people on TD i'm not ready to hit the panic button. What i think happened was that CLM was caught a little off guard and missed on his top options. Now he has to take the time to thoroughly evaluate the rest of the applicants. Measure twice and cut once.

It's like someone wiped everyone's brain of 2008. That was the argument then in favor of Les paying his buddies instead of him hiring someone who actually was qualified to lead and call a defense. They didn't have to learn a new system we were told. Mallory apparently was a genius at film breakdown. Yet, the defense was atrocious. We hired a proven guy with a new system for the guys to learn, and like magic, the defense was good again. So, no. Let the kids learn what to do from someone who knows what to do.

You still okay with Brick if Orgeron isn't brought in?

It speaks volumes that LSU fans are okay with Haley contingent on Orgeron. Maybe I expect too much, but considering the defensive history and current prowess at LSU, I want a DC that is qualified and can stand on his own two feet.

Exactly.....and I was one of the people supporting the promotion or at least I got the thinking behind it.

Why wasn't Miss St wowed by his experience under Chavis to give him a look at DC twice now? shite....why hasn't anyone?

Look. This might work out if it happens.

But there is no denying that if Miles ends up doing this, it will be because he couldn't land someone worth a shite.

Now, we can debate on this board all we want about the quality of Miles' ability, but if we settle for Brick, then we will have just witnessed the coaching community's vote of no-confidence regarding Miles at this moment.

Sure. It's possible all those coaches are wrong.........but, they do know more than any posi or negatiger on this board.

Actions speak louder than words.

LSU shouldn't be on the job training coaches at coordinating positions. If you aren't a hot shot young guy or a proven guy, you shouldn't just default into high profile jobs. You look to promote the Frank Wilsons of the world because of what they mean. Really, though, you don't promote those guys, you just pay them more than small school coordinators make to keep them around.
