Leaning towards getting a SBE II or Maxus before next season. The Maxus shoulders well, but I thought I remember reading that people were experiencing problems. I like both guns a lot. Any reviews from Maxus owners?

Browning lost my trust and I've heard of problems with most of their shotguns lately...

My dad's Maxus is the worst shotgun I've ever shot in my life. Huge piece of shite.

LousianaChessie likes his though.

See that's the thing, the one I shot was years old and hasn't had any problems but then you hear of people who have experienced a lot of problems.

Why not just buy an A5 of you're considering Browning?

I've had my Maxus for 4 years and never had a single issue. It's my everyday duck and dove gun

If you are looking at the Maxus, also look at the Winchester SX3. It is essentially the same gun without the magazine cut-off and with the ability to extend the tube.

You can purchase one with cerakote from Mack's Prairie Wings for less than you would pay for either the SBE2 or the Maxus (~$1200).

It has much less recoil than the SBE2, which I also have, and shoulders better for me personally.

One issue with the SBE2 is that it is inertia driven. As such, low brass shells will jam on occasion (like dove loads). The SX3 is gas driven and will shoot anything.

I've owned a Maxus for 2 seasons. The light recoil with waterfowl loads has to be felt to be believed.

It is a great gun, but I bought it off gunbroker before shouldering the gun. I shoot it fine with an aftermarket stock pad (wrapidcomb), but if that thing were to fall off on a duck hunt I'm not lined up on the gun at all.

I'm hunting with a guy that has a SBE2 this weekend, I am looking forward to shooting it. After several crappy weather hunts this season and complete breakdown of shotgun each time, I like the simplicity of breaking SBE2 down and cleaning it (or not according to a lot of owners).

SBE2 will shoot 1 1/8th oz shot with no issues at all.

Would love to see how you quantify this.

ETA: in the SX3 manual it says you need to use 1 1/8th oz loads if your gun shoots 3.5s. Just like the SBE2

SX3 shoulders almost identical if not identical to the Maxus. I have one and know 3 other people with them with no problems, I know 2 people with Maxus and one of those had ejection and firing pin problems.

If the A5 wasn't $1500 I would have bought that, but I've been happy with mine.

SX3 and the Maxus have exactly the same operating system.

Exactly.

Been hunting with the Maxus for 4 years. I love it, when it shoots. Minimal recoil, light weight, shoulders well, fast trigger, etc. I don't like it when I hear click. I have heard click too many times in the last 4 years.

To the OP please don't think that I am trying to sway you to one gun or the other. I'm not.

I think they are both great guns. I just don't want you to base your judgement off of an incorrect statement.
