OT Readers: Thoughts on Multiple Book Series?

Is anyone else annoyed that all authors seem to stretch their work as far and as thin as they can in an effort to sell multiple books? I get there are series that simply can't be packed into one book, but more often than not it seems like a solid story packed with a lot of fluff. Why can't you get a single, well-written, all-encompassing book anymore with a complete storyline? I get so sick of waiting years for these guys to write the second and third book.
Also, if there's a series that from the reviews you feel you may like but only the 1st book of a trilogy is out, will you read it now or wait until all three are out?

It depends on the author..
I like Preston & Child's Special Agent Pendergast series.

I like some series. But, they're individual stories with the same characters I like.

I've written several chapters for my Techno-Thriller.
I may break it into 3 150 page books and sell them for $0.99 on Amazon via electronic format only.

That doesn't bother me so much.
What does piss me off is when I'm reading a trilogy and I get to the last few pages of the third book and I'm like, "Wtf. There's no way this story can end in just a few pages." Then on the last page the author says, " Fooled you! There's going to be a fourth book!" frick you! frick your fricking book and die in a fricking fire.

I hate that almost as much as smocked clothing.
Almost.
Almost.

A good series can be fun, im a serious reader but Harry Bosch is an addiction...and im not really a fan of the genre.
From experience on a trilogy id wait for the first two to come out before starting.

The only series I've ever liked was the Scarpetti series. I believe Patricia Cornwell authored that series. If you haven't read them yet, I would absolutely recommend doing so.
