Been reading about them lately. Bullet speed pushing 4000 fps

How is recoil?
Enough knockdown for whitetail?

On of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. No recoil what so ever.

Mine has killed 8 or 9 whitetails but I would use a bigger caliber if possible. My daughter and niece used it until thy were old enough to shoot a 7mm-08.

I know a guy that's full of it who told me his buddy deer hunts with a 22-250 that has a bull barrel. Told me the guy shoots me in the head cause that thing is deadly accurate

I know someone who has one and it's all he deer hunts with. Said no recoil and has taken large deer with it at 150 yds+. Didn't know if he was full of crap or not

I've got a Savage and a Remington 700 in 22-250. It's very fast, accurate, and flat shooting but I wouldn't recommend a .22 caliber bullet for hunting deer. I'm not saying it can't be done, but anybody that hunts knows situations or shots come up where you need that extra penetration. My .02.

It will kill a whitetail but there are far more effective calibers. It is difficult to find a faster moving load than the light grain .22-250s out there. As a varmint rifle it it unparalleled, as a deer rifle there are dozens upon dozens of more ethical calibers.

The last one my daughter killed with it ran 50 yds but had no blood trail. I used good bullets that would stay together and they just tear the deer up inside but very little blood trail. I thought it was time to set her a bigger gun because sooner or later she was gonna make a marginal shot and not find the deer.

I will say this though, not one single deer those kids shot with that gun ran more than 50 yds.

If the conditions are right (e.g. broadside shot where the slips in between the ribs or a brain shot) I don't doubt that a 22-250 would kill a deer. My question is why use a 22-250 when there are a HOST of other rounds that are much more appropriate for deer hunting? What if the man carrying a 22-250 on a deer hunt encounters a large bodied deer, quartering away, surrounded by a thicket w/ a shot that's 200 yards away?? What hunter would want to be carrying a 22-250 under those circumstances?

A 22-250's a FINE gun for coyote hunting, prairie dog hunting and any other varmint/predator you can think of, but I wouldn't recommend one for deer hunting.

They can reach out and don't kick at all so the pros are good for long range shooting and for women and children. Need to use the appropriate bullet or they blow up and can make wounding without recovery an issue. If not shooting long-range bigger is better. My son started out shooting small deer as he progressed and started killing 200 lb. deer we had to move up in caliber. He shot a 200 lb. deer that we had to track for 1.5 miles to find in very sandy soil with very little blood. Followed the tracks not the blood. Now he has an 06.

They are a blast to shoot. Negligible recoil and in most rifles hitting coke bottles at 300 yards isn't that much of a task.

They will kill deer. I've cleaned a deer shot with one and it was pretty nasty. The whole engine room was jello and there was bullet shrapnel everywhere in the off side ribs. Of course no exit.

I don't think it's a good round to use. It can kill deer quickly, but so can a .22 if the stars line up well enough. IMO a .25-06 is the bare minimum amount of horsepower for shooting deer.

Great caliber, great for predator hunting. But have personally seen it knock down a large fallow deer at about 75 yards.

was talking about better varmint rifle. Not sure why anyone would use a 22-250 for deer hunting.

guy I know said he shot a buck at 175 yards and blew a giant entrance hole (no exit). Wasn't sure this caliber would cause big entrance wounds but maybe so. He said bc the bullet is traveling so fast (some @ 4000 fps) that it just basically explodes.

This wouldn't be a rifle for me but for younger hunters and women at our camp.

The round has killed many deer. Also, ballistic tip .22-250 to the head produces gnarly results.

Let me know if this is too graphic:

22/250 is a great round and lots of folks start their kids off shooting deer with them. I personally don't deer hunt with mine but would not hesitate to shoot a deer with it if it's what I had in be blind. I use mine for hog and varmint hunting. I shoot he hogs around the ear with it.

It's also one helluva hog killer. Hit'em behind the ear and they don't take a step.
