As long as you dont sign with an agent. If you are one of these underclassmen who wants to get drafted but doesnt, why cant you come back to college to play/earn your degree? Never understood why that is?

frick Goodell, that's why

Once you sign to become draft eligible you relinquish your rights as an "amateur" to become a "professional" athlete. One way street.

Kind of like baseball? So, would players become draft eligible out of high school as well?
Posted on 1/4/15 at 4:35 pm to TigerFan244
Because agents give you free crap apparently and you get some kind of advantage from all the training.

What does Goodell have to do with it? Sounds like an NCAA rule to me.

I get your point, but it also helps guys have a real hard thought to stay.

NFL has to protect the draft process. What if a first round pick decided to go back another year.

My point exactly....if someone gets drafted in baseball out of high school but they decide to go to college instead they still can and do right?

It cost the money to fly around to combines and workouts not to mention no way could complete course work and do draft preparatin

Well for that you make it only non drafted guys are eligible..
So if you are a pick you can't return.
I'm not saying I'm for this but I get the idea

NCAA = amateur sports.
By declaring for the NFL draft, you lose amateur status and forgo your remaining eligibility for college and scholarship.
Just because you don't get picked doesn't mean shite. You choose to take that risk and gave up your eligibility for college sports. You cant play on both sides of the fence. Either you are staying in college or you forgo your eligibility and pro, regardless of you get picked or not.
Getting drafted or not actually has nothing to do with it. You forgo your eligibility when you declare for the draft, not when you get drafted.
And you have the scholarship limits and shite. The draft is in May. Typically, the players that declare for the draft withdraw from school before the spring semester starts. And NSD is in February and you bring in x amount of guys to follow the scholarship limits. If a guy declares for the draft, is not in school that spring semester, doesn't get drafted, and comes back... It messes with the scholarship #s.

Same as going on job interviews but if you dont get the job as a student you can still come back to school to finish your degree.

I was joking. Baseball has 40 rounds, plus comp picks. The NFL has 7 rounds. Do you not understand the difference in the two?

No it is not the same, this system benefits the owners not the players

Thats exActly what i dont get. Why is that? If im at college on a, i dont know, lets say a music scholarship and and contemplating getting a job in a symphony orchestra....i go try out with others but dont get selected, i can still come back to school and use my scholarship to finish my degree. Why is it different for college athletes?

Follow the money. If the athletes have a choice it would mean the owners would have to pay more because they could go back.

Look at the edit in my previous post.
And you can still go to school if you make the orchestra or whatever.
And academic scholarships =/= athletic acholarships.
