iPhone 6 will not backup to iCloud

I have an iPhone 6 and it will not backup to iCloud manually or on its on. I have 20gb of storage on iCloud and I would like to back up all the pictures of my son but I can't get it to do anything. All backups are cut on and I have 3.9gb free on the phone. Any ideas?

Yeah. Connected to wifi and also plugged into the charger.

It starts doing the backup and will show how many minutes remaining but then the bar fills up and it says "The last backup could not be completed" "Last backup: Never".
I have not been able to get it to backup through icloud since I got the phone in the last week of September. I can manually back it up through iTunes, but that's it.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and signing back in again?

Have you purchased more than the free 5 gigs? If not, then you may not have enough space in your cloud storage.

Yeah, when we had our son in late September I went ahead and purchased the 20gb plan for iCloud so I know I have plenty of storage space.
