When tech doesn't work. How much time do you spend troubleshooting?

I find that mostly I end up just not using it after spending a few attempts to troubleshoot.

Two examples:

1- I have ATT Uverse. I used to use the app on my Razr Droid to set recordings of games and shows that I forgot to do when I was home. Like I would forget to record an LSU BBall game and the app would save me... could pull it up, run through the guide, hit record.

About 3 weeks ago it just quit working. Nothing changed. Just every time I pulled it up it gave a "No Server Available" type of error. I troubleshot it for about a half day. Now I just don't use it and call someone at home to set a recording for me.

2- Y'all are gonna love this one. The past week or so, on my phone and my ipad, both using Chrome, half the time when I go to post a message on TD, the keyboard will pop up and then immediately disappear. It seems to work for awhile, then just starts doing this.

I troubleshot it for about an hour, then just stopped posting/replying. (queue the "that's a feature, not a bug. ha ha you suck and we're better off for you not posting" posts)

How much time/effort will you give troubleshooting to something before just changing your ways and moving on from it?

I went through testing a car amplifier for three hours with no idea of what I was doing the other day. Spent another two hours narrowing it down to the amp.

Hard drive isn't showing up on this Vista computer in management, and I spent two hours last night trying to figure it out. Decided frick it and I put 7 on another hard drive and threw the first one away. It was only like 100gb anyway

Electrical shite is the biggest pain in the arse I have ever dealt with. It's why I'm doing ME, and am gonna let the nerds to all of the rest

It depends on whether it's mine or someone else's

I'll spend days on my stuff trying to figure it out.

It depends on what it is. My home-built PC... it will work flawlessly without fail or it will bring great shame to family. For most things, I spend as long as it takes to reach closure -- either determining the cause and fixing it, determining the cause and returning/RMAing if it's a defect or a design flaw, or determining the cause and deciding whether I can live with it or if I need to return it for something else.

If it's something I have no experience tinkering with, I will always instantly consult Google. It's rare there won't be a solution on the internet, so no need to waste my time with trial and error if it's not something I care about.
