The Defensive Coordinator hire doesn't really matter.

We had the number 1 ranked defense in the SEC this year and still finished 5th in the west and with 5 losses. Let's assume whomever we hire at DC can replicate that next year, why will the season outcome be any different? Defense is not the problem with this program. It's the stubborn head coach and stone age offense. Next year we will have the same horrible starting QB and same philosophy. No matter how good our defense is, we still lose at least 4 games and are again irrelevant in college football.

Now if we make a terrible DC hire and he can't field a top SEC defense, I guess it will speed up the inevitable firing of Leslie.

Look at the reality. Our defense cost us games. I don't care if we shut out shitty ooc opponents.

Did our offense cost us games? Yes, but the defense didn't do its part when the offense did their job.

I think a new DC will be an improvement so long as its the right hire (obviously).

It absolutely matters.

Don't be an idiot.

We had an elite offense just last season and we will again.. the defense matters.

How? A great hire isn't gonna field a defense ranked higher in the SEC than we were this year. Even with the best defense we lost 5 freaking games. Until offense improves, defense can't make this team any better.

Then I'll take the job for half of what Chavis made.

The best defense is a productive offense. Don't you think that's a big reason Chavis bolted to A&M? I mean, his defenses at A&M are not likely to be on the field 70% of the game. You could have the 2000 Baltimore Ravens out there, it wouldn't matter. Besides, look at how good offenses and offensive minded coaches have become the past 6-7 years. The days of dominating D's (LSU, Alabama 2011) are over IMO.

Eta: statistically LSU finished this year atop the sec in total defense. Look at how MSU and Auburn shredded us. Look at what Ohio St. offense did to Alabama D.

All this means is we gave up the fewest total yards. It's an incredibly misleading stat that doesn't give the whole picture. Our defense was God awful in the early losses to MSU and Auburn and even in the win against Wisconsin.
