Going to New Orleans in March, want to bring bring back seafood. Would like to get a ballpark est of the costs (so I can bring enough money).

Do they have and what is a good price for?

Frozen soft shell crab (per dozen)
bushel #2 or mixed crab
half sack crawfish
half sack oysters
jumbo shrimp

(also interested in conch, alligator, turtle and sausages and boudin made with seafood or alligator), most likely will need to get this elsewhere.

No conch.
There is a place there that sells seafood sausage but ive never had it.
Turtle meat is $15# minimum and none of it is local.

They will have good prices but its hard to say what some items will cost, such as crawfish.

One thing that is certainly a safe prediction is that they will be high. Last year the excuses were gas prices and a good amount of cold weather.

Gas prices have been plummeting so that excuse is gone. Something will replace that excuse though. They're basically drug dealers.

In March, based on years past, might be around $2.50/lb live.

Other items like the sausage, boudin, alligator, etc can be ordered online.

Ain't that the truth these days. Too wet or too dry or gas is high or no water in the spillway or too much water or too much silt or no enough O2 in the water etc........

I always get shrimp from amy. Her cash prices are hard to beat, and she gets good size.

Yea, prices are high, but that's everywhere. I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination, counting pennies like everyone else. I don't begrudge someone needing to charge for their products, they have families to feed too.

Being able to buy the best seafood in the country, how lucky are you to be able to have it anytime you want. I just would like to pay a fair price for delicious seafood and give my family and friends back home a rare treat!!!

What size shrimp are you typically buying? Any other seafood?

Most of those folks are just good hard-working people. It's really a luxury to have such options. You can usually get a decent price on softshells. I'd like to find a good oyster person over there... one time I purchased some shucked ones from the wood shack next door and was unimpressed.
