Seems like every year we (Tiger fans) go through some period of grave disappointment (mostly directed at Les) and then somehow, it’s followed-up by something to rekindle our football enthusiasm. This isn’t just an occasional thing; I’ve come to expect it.

Examples:
’08 RP dismissal, Maleveto debacle, and turnover fest, followed up by big bowl win vs GaTech, JJ looking impressive, proven DC (won’t say his name now) and Shep coming-in for ’09. O is going to impress.

’09 clock mgmt and dismal bowl loss followed by spring reports that JJ is throwing the ball well and 3 5* receivers (TT, RR, and RS). What could go wrong in ‘10?

’10 QB issues, season long slog on O, weirdest game ending ever in TS vs UTenn, followed by departure of Crowton. High hopes w/ new OC (Kragthorpe but later Stud) and Mett signed-on. ETA: great win in TS vs Bama and stomped the Aggies in the Cotton Bowl. Can you say Spencer Ware?

’11 incredible season but disastrous finish. The final chapter of the JJ/JL debate now over. On to ’12 with Mett and some of best talent ever on D. Anyone remember how Les talked of if they play us this way we’ll burn’em over the top, . . .? And all those LB recruits on the way. Plus, Bama had to come to our house in ’12. I’m pumped.

’12 – TM dismissed, another year of slogging on O. Tough losses at UF and to Bama and collapse in the bowl game. Not much to show for all that talent on D. Kind of a blah-season. But new, big name OC coming for ’13. Can hardly wait.

’13 – saw a truly functioning O. We really had our own. And the RP hangover now gone. The CC hire seemed like it couldn’t be better. Plus he could develop QB’s unlike Cowton and Stud. Great recruiting class including LF7 . . . looking forward to ’14 . . .

’14 – horrible O, porous D early on, DC leaves . . . but just watch. Les will have a great recruiting class, announce a new scheme on O or the like, make a big hire at DC and we’ll all get hopes sky high for ’15 . . .

Very few people picked LSU to finish better than 8-4 in the regular season.

I love LSU. I will watch every game regardless off who is play or coaching.

Someone asked if a PSU type scandal would make me stop being and LSU fan.

Honestly it would take a scandal like PSu had, and then Les and alluvia would have to come out and make a statement like "yeah we knew about it, and we fricking are all about that shite. We fully support molesting kids" for me to stop being an LSu fan.

Or like all the players and administration, and the state just decided "Hey LSU is a Nazi school now, thats a things."

SO I don't have much respect for people who bail because we don't ahem a good QB.

Ok, did anyone predict us to get blown out in TS by State? Or to be blatantly non-competitive vs Auburn? Or shutout at Arky? It's one thing to lay an egg - it happens. It's another to become a carton.

The question in the OP is rhetorical. I'm right with you. Even if there were a PSU-magnitide scandal, I would suggest we pick-up the pieces and start rebuilding. I love LSU.

Great post. Funny that you just described the last 7 seasons of LSU football and there seemed to be a lot of disappointment outside of the first 13 games of 2011. tdecline is real.

Every new season brings new opportunity, so renewed hope and confidence. We're an elite program with elite players, so it's not hard to get excited for football after an eight month hiatus

Love LSU, but Miles will always disappoint in the end. Hanigriff said this " Miles' offense has the same flo to it as his speech" It is halting, unsure, stop, go, turn around, no, go,, no stop. Also time management resembles the same pattern. Decisions are slow and many times too late. He can hardly complete a sentence in understandable English and we pay him how much? I don't think he is a bad coach, he just is not a great one who s worth what he is paid. Do we really think he can take LSU to the level of the two O teams or even Alabama?

Hope springs eternal... Great post by the way. Really summed it all up in concise manner... Add to this the view of a THIRD FRIGGIN STRING QB from Ohio State in his second game ever last night and you have to realize something is so far off target in Tiger Town vis a vis the QB and offense, it's not even funny...

It's always going to be that way with Les Miles, it's one of the reasons he's so maddening to follow, he's an enigma. He follows up a clusterfrick with a gem, only to throw up another clusterfrick. His inconsistency is maddening.

It's got nothing to do with Les.

The combination of les' coaching debacles and my getting older with kids to raise has put some perspective on my LSU fandom. I'll be looking forward to next season as usual, but I won't get real excited again until there's a new coach on board. I like les but I'm pretty well over him as our head ball coach.

Les has no problem speaking when he is being honest. When he is shading the truth or out right
lying he sounds like Norm Cosby

Reading anyone from Louisiana criticizing the speech patterns of someone else is always funny.
