BREAKING: According to league source, agreements in place for 100 percent of Hawks to be sold. Story to come. #ATLHawks

Zach Lowe ?@ZachLowe_NBA
Guesses from insiders on 100% valuation of Hawks have generally ranged from $700M-$1B. High end seems too high to me, but we'll see.

Fantastic news, it is no secret the ASG is a terrible ownership group.

How have they fared in getting fewer blacks at their games?

The new ownership group would be smart to not frick up what the Hawks are doing right now.

and also, Danny Ferry needs to be given some credit for this team. He might have made a mistake in the Deng report, but I don't think the guy is racist(he's an NBA lifer for christ's sake).

For the betterment of the NBA, I hope that this new group is more like the Spurs and less like the Kings owner.

The Hawks are for sale – as in 100 percent of the franchise.

According to person familiar with the situation, agreements have been reached between all three ownership groups to sell their complete stakes in the team. Those agreements have been approved by the NBA.

The team will be officially on the market next week, according to a league source. The investment banking firm Goldman Sachs and Inner Circle Sports has been retained to handle the sale process. The firm can now begin the process of gathering and vetting prospective buyers. Estimations are the franchise could be sold for upwards of $600 million.

The Washington-based group, led by controlling owner Bruce Levenson, announced in September that it would sell its 50.1 stake following the discovery of a racially inflammatory email that rocked the franchise. An independent investigation discovered an e-mail Levenson wrote in 2012 that included racist remarks about the fan base and game operations. Levenson’s partners Ed Peskowitz and Todd Foreman are also stakeholders in the original group known as the Atlanta Spirit.

Move them Seattle. This city does not deserve a franchise.

Seattle deserves a franchise sure, but if the Hawks put out a contender consistently (7-10 years) their fanbase would be improved.

In addition to that, with Turner Sports(and NBA TV) being located in ATL, there is no way the NBA moves a franchise out of there.

I recall the Hawks having a fricking national TV deal with TBS back in the day. It's unbelievable to think about that now.

Speaking of which, bring back

Atlanta is arguably the worst sports city (not saying it's a bad city) in the country. I'd put it right behind Miami.

just the nature of TV contracts nowadays. TBS was a basic cable standard by that point, but for a more recent example you didn't see Bob Johnson having BobCats games on BET.

More to the point, you'd never see big cable station (i.e. non local affiliate) put one team on exclusively.
