At one point de Blasio told the cadets, "You didn't create problems," and someone in the crowd shouted audibly "No, you did!" The recruits were stoic.
I love it when somebody meets a pandering politician with a quick retort.

Cops looked smooth turning their backs on DeBlasio, thanks to all the practice turning their backs on excessive force, abuse, and corruption

Deblasio made his bed, now he has to sleep in it.

As opposed to the cops, who have no consequences for their actions.

And who also seem committed to acting like 3rd graders.

That's a fairly large brush you just used to paint the cops.

Lefty Protestors demonstrating violently is the highest expression of nuanced democracy.
Law and Order types demonstrating peacefully is the highest expression of Third Gradery.
Got it.

That's so weird.
Because when I enter the term "cop sentenced" into my search engine there are like 7.7 million results.
I guess I need a more Anti-Cop- Narrative-friendly search engine.

Are you asserting 7 million cops were sentenced to jail? We may have a more serious problem than I thought.

You think out of a total population of 34,500 (NYC Police force) that they are immune to having a few bad apples?
Total crimes in Manhattan last year was 217,000, about 2.5% of the population. Applying that to the NYC Police force that would mean that 862 cops would have broken the law for a violent or property crime last year.
I would bet that # is far lower. Just saying. Do we need to reign it in as best as possible? Yes. Do we need to demonize them and their tactics as Deblasio has done? Nope. That's the issue. It's not like it's a tough job. I've had my issues with them as well during my 15 years there. That being said, you can't expect the same level of perfection that you would expect from one of the most powerful elected officials in the country.

I do not expect them to be perfect. I do expect them to be held to same level of accountability to which citizens are held when they aren't perfect.

Team DeBlasio tweeted out shortly after this that he isn't the only mayor to get booed at the ceremony, as the class of 2002 did the same to Bloomberg.
I'm wondering how they even do prep work for those kinds of talking points. I don't figure the police academy keeps records on whether the mayor was cheered or booed.

quote:Yes. Not with a racial angle, but their tactics definitely need to be demonized.
Do we need to demonize them and their tactics

The keys to the accountability you wish for is neutering the union. And the union is the only thing about the NYPD that Deblasio actually likes.
