Any one with any experience.

I rode in a boat with one the other day and was fairly impressed. While not in the same class as some of the higher end ones, for the price they seem a good value, any body here got any experience with them?

Total crap. Used for 1 hunting season and sold. The only way it ran was wide open.

I have an 18HP Vanguard. been very happy with it.

Cranks right up without a hitch even after sitting under the carport for a few months un-touched.

The guys at copperhead let me test one on my boat before purchasing. Overall, good guys and good product.

You must be referencing the clutch engagement.

The clutch they use engages around 2000 RPM, making idling lower than that a challenge. but it will definitely run without being wide open.

Great motors. I had a 23 on a 1442 and it hauled arse and did really well pushing weight. The folks over there are awesome people and bend over backwards to help their customers. The only reason I sold mine was because I got a much bigger boat.

Their power to weight ratio is much better than pro drive or gator tail minis. There's hardly nothing on the motor that can break and not be fixed on the fly with minimal mechanical knowledge. I really can't say enough good things about them.

No idea what you're talking about, but having run several of their motors I can promise you that is a seriously isolated incident, and one that would've easily been fixed or made right by calling them.

Love mine. I have the 23hp. Light, very little maintenance, simple, not much can break on it, and it's very fast. The 23hp Briggs is only getting better as it breaks in. At first it stalled a lot, especially from wide open to idle. I've got almost 50hrs on mine and it runs great. Always starts up on the first turn of the key.

The people at copperhead are great folks. Call them and ask them any questions you have, they will be more than happy to talk to you.

thanks man, I have access to one, and he has had great luck with it. I was fairly impressed on what it did with a pretty damn heavy load. I was just wanting some more experiences to reference ,

I probably will not put 10 hours a year on it, but wanted something to keep in N La and be able to use without investing too terribly much.

Its on a fiberglass flats boat called a gheenoe.

Used it for marsh fishing and hunting. Have run it in timber though. It bounces off logs etc.

I've personally run a Gheenoe with a copperhead and can vouch for how awesome that setup is.

I have no idea. wasn't my motor. All I do know is that it only ran wide open. Started it, very rough idle, matter of a fact the throttle would have to be revved to keep it running, then wide open or it wouldn't stay running at all. The owner had more than enough aggrevation with it so he sold it as soon as hunting season was over.

seems like a trip to a small engine repair place could have fixed his trouble for very little

No, didn't own it, but had to ride in the boat that it was bought for. It is what it is. A motor shouldn't have had to have any adjustments when purchased brand new.
