re: I never want to hear Brees and 'elite' mentioned in the same sentence again

Really? How can half this board consider yourselves "fans".
He's lost a step. So has Manning and Brady, but they've done a better job masking it and still playing at an elite level. Brees is still great, top 10, more likely approaching top 5, but he's not the lock top 4/1st tier he was in for the last 5-7 years with Manning/Brady/Rodgers.
Now that being said, lots of posters go overboard and have stated he's been average this season and generally seem to like posting about his faults, I'd agree with that. But he's not elite, not this year.

He had a nice run. I put him slightly behind Warren moon on the all time list if his career ended today
WTF? I'm a huge Warren Moon fan, but he is not even close to Brees. Moon had an excellent team around him prior to the salary cap change but he had undeniable leadership issues. Brees has proven so many times he can lead. Also, Moon hasn't even been to a Super Bowl; whereas Brees has won and been the MVP of one. Give me a break.

True. Brees was elite at one time. He is still a top 10 QB.
Interceptions at critical times have cost us games despite leading the NFL in total offensive yardage.
Colston dropping passes this year did not help. Brees did well with completion rate and overall passing yardage.

He's def not at that level anymore. Very sad but true.

Last time I checked, leading the NFL in completion % is a good argument for being elite....

Dude is a pick machine, how many INT's has he had this year, 20?

17. Way too many
He also had the 3rd highest amount of pressures going into today with 225. For comparison, he had 174 in 2011 with more throws.

Not this season.
And certainly not in comparison to those who actually are elite at this time.

Brees is elite. You people are fricking pathetic.
Please tell me more about how Brees isn't a $100 million dollar QB.
Would you prefer Kaepernick? Maybe Flacco? How about Andy Dalton?
True $100 million dollar QB's right there.

$100 Million Brees led his team to the same record as the Cleveland Browns in one of the worst divisions in the history of the NFL.
Two of those three you mention ... will be in the playoffs.

Now answer my question as to which one of those 3 you would prefer over Brees.

I haven't made it much past the OP. But if Brees comes back next year and plays lights out, everyone of you should self ban yourselves for the season. He's had a bad year (which, nevertheless, has been better than most NFL QB's), but so what? It doesn't mean he's done. I think the probabilities are that it's an aberration.

Of the three you listed ... none of them.
I would still rather have Brees.
I noticed you didn't list Rodgers or Brady or anyone actually considered elite.
No one considers Kapernick (sp?) elite.
No one considers Dalton elite.
No one considers Flacco elite ... except Flacco and probably a few Ravens fans.
Brees is still Top 10, perhaps Top 5 in the league.
But the man is not above criticism ... and he had some BAD INTs this season...and some of throws were not on the O-line. Some of them were just really bad.

That would be BC that wasn't his point.
He was listing $100 million QBs that are worse than him. He is getting paid the going rate

Drew Bree's will be elite once again.
