Looking for some good quality outdoor patio speakers for the pool and was wanting Bluetooth that would also do a AUX plug-in. I am hoping to spend under $300 for a pair and ideally would like to mount/ hang them. I don't want the pill/ single speaker types, if possible. I have electrical outlets I can plug into. Suggestions?

What are you going to use to control music?

iPhone or iPod

Patio is wired for speakers but I don't want to have to control it from inside.

You can get a pair of powered speakers and then add a small USB Bluetooth plug-in module. Check out AudioEngine--they make powered speakers that are small.

I looked at that site and I didn't see any outdoor speakers.

They aren't outdoor, but can be used outside. How directly/indirectly open to the elements will they be mounted?

Check the usual outdoor speaker brands and see if they make a powered model. If you find one, you just need to add the Bluetooth device to the audio input section on back of the speaker.

I will try to search for what you are looking for. If I find something, I will post.

This list may help... Powered outdoor speakers

Then just connect THIS to the RCA input and control the volume from your iPhone.

A pair of speakers isn't going to cover a pool especially when kids start playing around the pool. I have two pairs of speakers and a planter speaker to cover my area.

He'd need a voltage converter for that, right? It requires 12V.

Marco, you're help for the OP is much appreciated... but note one thing...

I tried a similar device on one of my home receivers and the range on it was only about 3' (despite that it was advertised at much more.)

Reading the reviews on the one linked, one guy noted that the distance on that one was about 5'. Great for auto use, but probably not home use.

I'm still looking for one...

Grassy, thanks for the heads up on that. I didn't read the review. Typically Bluetooth doesn't have a really big range.

There are some Bluetooth devices made that are advertised in Stereophile mag. I'll look them up in a bit and see if they have a better range.

You say you can get power to the speakers. Is there something that precludes you from running speaker wire? Your options open up and you will have access to higher quality. A pair or two could be driven by a receiver easily and with modern receivers you can get the Bluetooth option that you desire without having to cludge something together to make it work.
