First off I'm not as critical of the Tigers than most on here , but I believe everyone has a right to state their opinion on the team especially here on the rant ....

But I see a lot of threads about how horrible the offense had been the past few years but never hear anyone complain about the D .....

If you take a closer look , the fact is the defense has failed to stop the opponent on the final drive of the game in 5 of our last 10 losses ......

20012

Bama. 21-17
Clemson 25-24

2013

Georgia 44-41
Mississippi 27-24

2014

Bama ( gave up score on last possession to go to overtime )

In the last four seasons we lost half our games on the last possession by the opponent.....

I'm not trying to say the defense is no good , but do they deserve as much blame as the offense .......

Great point. I guess we give the defense a pass because we do not expect them to stop the other team all of the time.

But, 5 of the last 10 losses due to a defensive breakdown at the end? Ouch. That is a trend.

Actually, it is 5 of last 9 losses.

Tigers sometimes slack up at the very end of the game they should win. Bama again this year!

2012 Bama game had more to do with Miles not trusting his QB on 3rd down late in the game and playing for a FG and a 6 point lead. But certainly 3rd and Chavis burned us there as well.

Because the offense gives them the ball back with 2+ minutes to drive down the field. Especially against explosive offenses like this years bama team and 2012s Clemson team. 2012 against bama was inexcusable because they didn't have a mobile qb or weapons as good as amari this year. Oh well... It is a trend. If Bo Wallace didn't suck booty then they'd probably kick a field goal and win it in OT

Totally agree with your point about not making a stop at the end of games. You can also add a few times where we did the same at the end of first halves. With that said tho very rarely does the defense not hold an opponents score low enough to win a game if we had halfway good production on the offensive side of the ball. Very rarely are we able to put a game out of reach against quality teams either.

Not to mention if Jennings doesn't hit dural on that deep ball vs Arlansas that could have been another one ....

Offense usually can't close out a game and forces the worn out defense on the field one more time vs and offense that has nothing to lose.

This. I'd be willing to bet that we held those teams you mentioned well below their season scoring average. (excluding Georgia).

So you're stating that you didn't see any negative threads on our defense on this board last year?

I'm never going to defend the offense , and we all know how good the defense has been , and we know they carried this team a lot ...... But i get nervous late in game with less that a one possession lead .....

The defense definitely has a problem closing out games. It really sucks when they've been playing really well all game but can't manage a stop when it really matters like the last couple bama games.

Late game is an issue, but it's almost always due to conservative play calling and the offense putting the D in bad situations. Bama this year is the perfect example. Gives the O the ball at the 5. TD and we win but they shite the bed. How many games has the defense won in that time span?

Look at things this way, if our offense performed better then we have 10 more wins and do not rely on defensive breakdowns in the last few minutes of the game

Sometimes the best defense is a good offense

I do think the defense has become to prevent oriented a few times, but our offense provides for too many cliff hangers. Very seldom are we able to keep the ball away from our opponent at the end of a game.

Every defense will make a critical mistake from time to time, but our offense too often places us in difficult positions. It's true you win or lose as a team, but this year, offense was more of an Achilles heel.
