Why hasn't the NBA done something about the incessant complaining about calls?

Namely the clippers

Seems like a few techs when they start bitching every possession would nip this in the bud. Slows the game down and is annoying as hell.

Access to superstars is what separates the NBA and NFL. I can't speak for Adam Silver, but I imagine most efforts to censor the players who make the league profitable is a bad idea.

Complaining about calls has become part of the game, sadly

Well, one of the things that separates them. NBA's access to superstars is a huge plus.

basketball is the hardest sport to officiate. Hence the NBA's creation of the Replay Center that has direct contact with the refs in game.

In addition to that, coach "challenges" are being experimented with in the D-League this year (along with continuing to look into international goaltending rules).

As they become more efficient, the complaining will subside.

That being said, the NFL is just as bad but you don't see it on TV with how the game is displayed, in addition to the helmets of course.

MLB? Hell I know it's boring to watch too, but complaining about the calls happens just about every at bat.

The NBA just has closer shots of the players and they don't have helmets. NFL is just is bad if not worse.

After watching the last couple minutes, the Clippers have absolutely nothing to complain about

That dude bitches about every single fricking call.

For a NFL player/coach to get have a flag thrown on them for complain they have to damn near raise hell from the center of the earth first. They walk away with nothing when a lot of NBA guys would have been assessed two techs.

And MLB players will make a spectacle out of being thrown from games. That could get a NBA guy fined and suspended a game if they show out too much.

All that to say this. The only problem with the complaining in the NBA is that you focus more on it.

So wait, you think players complaining about calls slows down the game, but your solution is handing out techs like candy? You know those take longer to administer, right? Plus you've just antagonized the team which will lead to, you guessed it, more bitching.

In his defense, I think that if you're going to change the culture with technicals, you're conceding that it will make the game longer in the short term for the benefit of the long term. Once teams realize the NBA isn't fricking around with it and you'll get a quick technical for it, it would stop.

That being said, I still think it's a terrible idea.

There is a culture right now amongst the refs of trying to be intentionally resilient against bitching. Of course they are still human, but if you listen to the ex player commentators analyzing the game on league pass, they frequently comment about players not getting calls if they "cry wolf". No self respecting ref wants to look like the player is calling the next foul for him.

The current NBA blows. Back in the day, Jordan and magic and bird would never complain about the officials. It was just so much better back then......

jordan is the biggest complainer and rider of refs the NBA has ever seen, so i hope you're talking about the pre-showtime era

let me know when an NBA coach gets to run up to a ref and get in his face in the middle of a game without consequence, also

it was a joke aimed at the older generation who honk Jordan/magic and let nostalgia get in the way of what actually happened. Obviously, magic and Jordan rode officials incessantly, and always got the benefit of the doubt with calls. Now when it happens, it's ruining the game. But it's always been a part of the game. Even in the glory days of yesteryear

Give me some credit here. I know my basketball.

Have you ever seen a DB or WR after a PI call or if a PI isn't called? The dramatic hand waving of the imaginary flag. Or when a OL gets a holding call. It's like "Me? That's impossible", when it's a fact that they hold on every play, it just doesn't get called on every play.
