That deserves a big, fat "so what". Doesn't make it right and will always be inconsiderate. Get your butts to church early - together - and sit down.

My uncle was a priest. He would be setting up folding chairs in any available space that he could right before mass on Christmas Eve/Easter to accommodate for the flood of people to ensure that everyone had a seat.

If people were holding entire rows, he would tell them there was no shame in sitting near the back, and to consider that some elderly folks might walk in late. He would just be happy to see people at mass. Needless to say, people stopped doing that in his parish.

As a weekly attendee at Sunday masses I expect to sit in the pew I normally sit in. I usually glare at the poinsettias that come to mass twice a year and sit in My seat until they move.

I agree. But someone made it out as if only rich white people felt entitled to do it

No. People do not pay to sit in a catholic church. You've been misinformed

Don't they pass around a basket on a stick? I don't think they let you touch the loot if I recall correctly.

I disagree. You are simply not entitled to it, regardless of how frequently you attend. No perks for fulfilling your obligation - on Earth anyway. Nothing can justify staking a claim to any part of the church that belongs to everyone. You have no right to do this. It's exactly this kind of mentality that promotes "seat squatting". If you want that seat, get to church early. You're arbitrarily bestowing rights on yourself that belong to no one.

I thought the old people were closer to God and deserved their seat more than the lesser believers?

We saw so many people leave after receiving Communion and not stay around until the commencement of the Mass. We stood the whole time and arrived 30 minuted early. If you show up early, you better stay the whole time.
