Why is everything closed on Xmas as opposed to other holidays?

What makes Xmas the big special holiday as opposed to all others? Most places are closed all day on Xmas. But you don't really see that for any other holidays (thanksgiving, Easter, NY day, etc.).

If it makes you feel any better, just a few short years ago (almost) everything used to be closed on Thanksgiving, too, so you might not have to worry about this for too much longer.

Not meant to be anti-Christmas. It's just easier to shorthand on the phone.

And the post is strictly out of curiosity.

Maybe the country needs a single holiday for everyone to take a break? It is only one day.

Don't worry, the religious scribes that started the use of Xmas thought it was easier too.

Turn left at the corner. I really thought about your question pretty deeply. A good question and it came down to one answer. It's the good will toward man thing in all of us. Merry Christmas man.

I'm really just curious. People think it's a bashing thread, but it's not.

I didn't take it that way. In this day and age you have to wonder how we have been able to uphold this one last tradition. I could only come up with Jesus, it is the only explanation I have.
