i'd imagine that as it's own thread wouldn't go over well.

Wow, you guys are a bunch of heathens up in here! It never ceases to amaze me how defensive atheists get about their belief in absolutely nothing... I guess if you view yourself as nothing more than worm dirt that happens to have a pulse, you really only have the hope of convincing everyone else that you are smarter worm dirt than them to give yourself any worth at all... Pretty sad existence. I guess admitting God as creator means they would have to take some sort of responsibility for their sin and can't be excused for being morally and spiritually lazy. Some ppl can't look themselves in the mirror and admit their faults, they instead try to convince themselves the measuring stick that makes them wrong doesn't exist, therefore neither does their sin.

Kinda like me sucking at math, but instead of admitting I suck at it, I just try to convince myself that numbers don't exist.

Serious question to my atheist friends.

Why do you exist? For what purpose? Do you hang on to life simply because you are scared to die? I mean, there's no point in leaving a legacy, raising kids, being in love, or enjoying anything good in life if it means absolutely nothing and amounts to nothing but refuse when it all boils down to...well... NOTHING. Right?

Why do you cling to something that gives no hope?

Because my parents fricked.

What? Why does there need to be a higher purpose? I am an animal, just like any other. Just one blessed with an advanced cerebral cortex. If you look at time and the vastness of the universe, we are completely and utterly irrelevant.

My own personal purpose is to enjoy the life I have and to share it with those I care about.

What a load of incomprehensible nonsense. You do realize humans predate Christianity by thousands and thousands and thousands of years? You do realize, right now, there are billions of people on this planet, living happily without believing in your god?

quote:

Why do you cling to something that gives no hope?

No hope? If anything, I enjoy life a heck of a lot more than many religious people, because I actually ENJOY Life knowing THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I'M GOING TO GET. I don't worry about drinking on Sunday or eating pork.

I "cling to life" because its the only one I'm going to get and I love living it to the fullest.

People like you are so condescending and small minded. It is amazing that you have such a low functionality.

You misunderstand me. Catholicism is infinitely more palatable than any of the crazy little brother sects. Catholicism IS Christianity in my book. It is the original. All the rest are pretenders.

Study history a little more. Catholicism is the first, but injected many man made rules centuries later. The "sects" as you call them, are the ones that refused their new rules and wanted to stick to the Bible. You are misinformed.

What amazes me about atheists is their expectation that Noah could adequately explain the creation of the universe 3000 years ago

I can't remember what Noah's view of the earth and universe was. It shouldn't matter, but

Maybe, just maybe, things were simplified for the intelligence level of the people of that time.

The public high school here, where my youngest son attends, has several teachers that believe the earth is around 6000 years old. How is this belief possible?

No idea. What's your point? Well, I mean, I have my own views on what I may want to do in life, but that really doesn't satisfy the "why" question. Then again, why does ANYTHING exist? Same question really.

quote:

Do you hang on to life simply because you are scared to die?
Well, I mean, it's sort of well established that no matter what level you look at it, life tends to try and stay alive. I mean hell, even if i thought living served no purpose at all, I can't see why that would make me want to cease existing.

quote:

I mean, there's no point in leaving a legacy
Now this makes no sense. An atheist can certainly believe in the concept that it is important to do right by those you raise and/or affect in life. In fact, for an atheist, THAT is the only form of "afterlife".

quote:

Why do you cling to something that gives no hope?

This is simply a fallacy. I "cling" to nothing of the sort. In fact, I would prefer that I genuinely believed in God and that he absolutely existed. Alas, I do not believe. I don't do this because I consider it awesome. I merely don't believe because there is literally no reason to believe.

Well, that settles it... we should all believe in something without a shred of evidence simply because sumtime considers himself important enough.

Strangely, the god I want wouldn't accept people like sumtime. Can I just hope it to be and thus it will be so?

Yeah, that one made me laugh. I'm like, "how does one PRACTICE believing a thing?"

Honestly, based upon some of the answers I see in these threads, I have to come to the conclusion that many who profess "belief" are pretty f'n bad at "believing".
