Thinking about picking up a MoMarsh or Four Rivers in the offseason.

I live in Kansas and have come to the conclusion that I need a layout boat to increase my productivity duck hunting. I hunt a majority of public and a lot of times by myself. There is never a shortage of birds, it's just a matter of getting to out of reach spots. A layout will allow me to do that. So if anyone has any photos or reviews on layout boats, I'm all ears. Also interested to see how much everyone has into their setup.

From videos I have seen, they work well. The weight is what holds me back from getting one. Most of the places I want to use it are a mile or more from the truck.

Where in Kansas? Headed to Emporia in Feb for a goose hunt with TAW.

I'm caught in the middle. If I buy a 14ft jon boat, I lose the convenience. With the layout I could walk it 50 yards, put in the water, and then use my trolling motor. If I buy the layout, I lose the space.

I'm in Wichita, about an hour from Emporia. I'd never heard of TAW, but I checked out their site and it seems legit. Some guys I grew up playing baseball with started a guide service called Kansas Hurt Locker and they have been putting the hurt on geese. Unreal how many they have shot. Give them a look if you come back. They are a bunch of young guys who actually have some ties to South Louisiana. Lots of cajuns have come up this year.

Hope the weather cooperates and the goose hunt goes well. For some reason the honkers never did it for me.

I was wanting to duck hunt up there, but we waited too long. Most outfitters were booked up. We will so how this trip goes and play it by ear next year.

Some guys on here use kayaks, and built blinds for them. Here is one of the threads.

Sounds like you need a MoMarsh Fatboy DP. If I hunted alone a lot I would have one for sure. They are so practical for the solo hunter.

Will a trolling motor push them good?

The ones that I have seen all tend to have long tails on them anywhere from 6.5 hp up to 15 hp. I would think a trolling motor would push it for sure, but not very fast at all.

I have a marshrat with rickshaw motor. It's very legit. Shorter and lighter than momarsh

Those are sweet. Unfortunately I need something a little safer/stable as I'll be hunting bigger water

We put two guys in it to transport to the hole. It's pretty stable.

What about a native ultimate? Could easily add a trolling motor to it. We hunt front a native ultimate and a Jackson cuda. Paddling distances are a bit limiting but the native is super stable

Make some blind material like this to cover yourself with:

@guesswho, is the marsh rat the one pictured in another thread. That's exactly what I need.
