W'e live in mixed commercial/residential area, directly behind a restaurant. Our street is very narrow, and it's always cramped in the evenings with restaurant patrons parking on the street. And especially so during the holidays. Tonight, somebody parked directly behind my driveway, but on the opposite side of the street. Being that the street is so narrow, it made it really difficult to get out. I knocked over one of our trash cans and almost went in the ditch. I called the restaurant and asked them to have the person move their car anywhere but directly behind my driveway so we could get out. Nobody copped to it for half an hour, so I called back with the license plate number and it was moved in 5 minutes. My question is being that it's on the opposite side of the street, if someone parks like that again and won't move, can I have them towed even if it's not my property but because I can't get out? I don't want to be a bitch, but I don't appreciate being trapped in my house while someone else eats dinner.

Where they park leagally, as in the right direction? If so, then there is nothing you can do about it.

Public street. The restaurant has a parking lot but it's also really popular and there's always overflow on the streets. And yes, they were parked the right way.

Im gonna say this is a you problem. I dont see how you cant turn out of a driveway into a street no matter how narrow it is.

If it is wide enough to drive on it, it is wide enough to turn onto it. I mean shite, can you not make turns without going into the other lane with you drive?

If you are blocked you can have them towed. Parking in the street, beyond popular belief, is not legal unless parking is marked.

What turns are you talking about? I couldn't back out of my driveway.

With red paint and a steady hand you can make your very own no parking spot.

Im assuming you have to turn your car to get out of your driveway....

Also, back in.

Problem solved if you arent good enough at backing out, which is infinitely more difficult.

Old area of town. Pretty sure the houses were here first, but it's very mixed. A lot of houses have been turned into businesses. That's really what I like about the area. Not stuck in a subdivision. Never had a problem before tonight.

Start putting roofing nails in that spot and people will stop parking there.

Or you could learn to drive.

Oh and leaving your trash cans at the road is trashy, pardon the pun, per OT guidelines

Oh I see what you're saying. There were cars parked all along the street on both sides. People have always left a space behind my driveway so it's not been a problem until tonight. But with cars lining the street and then one directly behind me, it was a no go.

Well, the trash man comes before I wake up and he doesn't come up to my yard and pick up the trash for me. So I guess I'm trashy.

Yea, so just back into your driveway if it's too hard for you to back out. Then you can just pull out. And if the street is wide enough to drive on when cars are parked on it, I dont see how there'd be an issue.

It's really not wide enough for people to park on and drive. But that doesn't stop them. When another car is coming towards you, you have to take turns passing because both cars can't fit down the road at the same time.

Per OT guidelines, we are all trash in some way.
