To what players do you ascribe blame for this team's struggles?

A lot of blame is going around. I see people blaming Jimmy Graham, Colston, Brees, ect. However, who do you blame the most?
1. OFFENSIVE LINE: these guys, as a unit, were terrible all year. When the offense needed a yard, they lost a yard. They were unbelievably bad near the goal-line, often losing yards or allowing a sack to force a field goal. When Brees needed time for a key completion, the had a guy in his face instantly. They routinely allowed the league's most non-existant pass-rushers to look like J.J. Watt (thank goodness we didn't actually play against J.J. Watt!)
2. Linebackers: wow, there's no one in the middle of the field. That blitz was seemingly picked up immediately by their 5'-8" RB, another blown tackle in space? Our LB'er play was atrocious, just terrible. They couldn't cover the pass, they provided zero pressure on the QB, and failed to tackle the RBs. If we needed a stop, you were damn certain we weren't going to get one.
3. Defensive Line: couldn't buy a sack to save their lives. No pressure from the front 4 what-so-ever. They were occasionally decent against the run, but when the chips were down, you knew they were going to fail to get the stop in time, and they certainly weren't going to get to the QB.
4. Secondary: they might as well have just not existed outside Keenan Lewis. How many times has the defense had 3rd or 4th and long late in the game and just needed a stop to win. Seemingly every game, this scenario played out over and over only to result in a big play to get the opposing team in field goal range or down by the goal line. I will admit that the injury bug and no pressure up front played a big roll in this, though.
5. WR's: Drops, drops, drops. Nick Toon is terrible. He probably needs to be cut. Stills is a budding superstar. Colston is old and often failed to get separation. He also had a lot of key drops. Jimmy has clearly either been playing very hurt or playing with a DGAF attitude. They might as well have had hands of stone in the redzone. The biggest issue with them seemed to be the lack of separation that they were able to get when Brees had limited time. The poor offensive line play amplified the issue, often motivating Brees to force his throws to Jimmy Graham, leading to lots of interceptions. I expect some changes in the off-season.
6. Special teams: boy did we suck in every phase of this every game. We were average in punting and kick-offs, awful in return coverage, atrocious in returning punts and kicks, and routinely missed makeable clutch fieldgoals. The Saints had to have one of, if not THE, worst overall special teams unit. They couldn't kick, they couldn't return, they couldn't block, and they couldn't field. WHY WERE THEY THERE? It makes one wonder why we didn't just go for it on 4th down every time, they were so bad.

Disagree. I think he actually showed a lot of promise this season.
But other than that, I agree with you.
I'd add that Saunders was a great addition to the special teams and hopefully he can stick around. I've seen enough of Cadet that I hope we part ways with him this offseason.
But we have to start addressing our offensive and defensive lines. Terron Armstread and Strief should be the only two returning starters to the line. Evans, Grubbs, & Goodwin are all old, ineffective, & highly paid.

it was usually a different group each week taking turns having the worst games.
I don't know if you can just sit back and blame just a few players.
and you can't really blame injuries. Look at what the Arizona Cardinals have done this year with all of the injuries they've had.
but if I were going to start some where, it would be O-line/D-line.
those groups are always the hallmark of a bad team. We didn't get a lot of sacks or turnovers on defense in big games except the Green Bay game really. I guess you could count the Steelers game.. meh...
the D-line took a big step back this year with pretty much the same group of guys.
the O-line took a hit when turds like Bryce Harris had to play. Jahri Evans has peaked and won't get any better at this stage in his career in my opinion.
the O-line looked outmatched a lot this year from an athletic stand point. Terron Armstead looked to be the only lineman in good shape physically. The other guys looked slow. Not saying they weren't trying but they just looked slower.

Nothing to add to that. Well done.

Our 31st ranked out of 32 teams defense.
Although after that Falcons game yesterday, we might be 32nd.

Offensive line is a big part.
Linebackers have not been good for a long time, but I kind of think that this group should have been workable.
I'm wondering if most of our defensive problems have been scheme.

Mister Pick 6, aka Drew Brees

This falls on 1 person. Brees and his massive contract. He takes up far too much of the cap, which leads to the problems elsewhere.

Shhhhhhh JJ
Jimmies need to be rustled in silence.

suprisingly effective opening holes in the run however.

Offensive line is the bulk of the blame. Offense starts with protection and run blocking and we are below average on both while accumulating 17mil of salary on an interior line.
Our tackles are our only bright spots and the saddest part is that Brees requires a clean pocket to step into which makes good tackles lower on the necessity list.
