When I was 18, major points included:

Atlanta
OK City
Amarillo
GC/4 Corners/Cimmaron Canyon
Vegas
Tijuana
San Diego
Huntington Beach
LA
Mavericks/Half Moon Bay
SF
Eureka/Redwoods NP
Some Oregon beach state park
Portland

I don't think my advice would help, I was 18 so I didn't give a shite

I've driven to NorCal from Louisiana twice, to Maine from Louisiana, and other 1,000+ mile trips. Hydrate, good jams, bring healthy snack options or be forced to live off gas station food, take naps at rest areas, and research cool eating spots for each upcoming pit stop.

As someone who has done multiple 3,000+ miles, 2 month long trips, here a few tips:

- download podcasts/books
- ice chest with drinks within reach
- if it doesn't delay you too much, go the scenic route

not sure what else

I love road trips

yup

I'm fixing to do 900-1000 miles in a moving truck a couple days after Christmas. Not looking forward. At least it will be a weekend.

Satellite radio. Or wake up to the sound of tire rumble strips. That will keep you up for awhile.

Download the app called RoadTrippers. Will give you places to see/eat on your route. It has all the spots from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives as well.

I drove 950 miles over 3 days a couple weekends ago. Duck hunting involved in that makes it a lot easier

If your going to do all of the trip in one drive, leave early in the morning. 4am, etc

When you leave later, and it starts hitting 3am, 4am, you will get tired as frick, especially if you have to put the heat on, its like the sand from mr sandman.

I've done the st.louis to florida, florida to st.louis trips about 12 times. Leaving as early as i can, makes for a much easier drive. I was never tired or getting tired.

I did 1500 miles by myself 3 months ago in 2 days. When I was finished, I was hating life.

If I had it do over again, I would have done it in 3-4 days and take time to make stops to sight see and frick off.

At least I learned something I didn't know. Turns out, Wilmington has a ghetto. In Delaware of all places!

if at all possible, drive in the middle of the night to avoid the holiday traffic. just make sure you're rested enough & have enough coffee that you don't have to fight falling asleep.

download a couple of albums to listen to.

download a couple of podcasts to listen to.

treat meals as a commodity because those are going to be the high points of your driving days, so don't waste your meal time at a shoneys. stick with healthy snacks because you're going to feel pretty drained just from the driving, so don't add to it by eating a bunch of crap.

when you have to make break stops, don't waste a lot of time. stop, switch drivers, take a piss, get back on the road.

if you're driving alone, use the highway time to catch up with old friends and family on the phone (obviously with a phone call, not texting).
