Zachary and Central were both A schools when they were in Ebrpss and they remained A schools after the pull out.

Were there numbers associated with the schools or just the letter? Couldn't there still be an improvement? And I think they've changed the grading process a couple times since the new districts were formed. So it may not be easy to compare the numbers anyway. Just curious.

The scoring has changed about 4 times in the last 10 years, so the actual numbers can't really be compared.

Number of schools rated at each letter grade has been steady.

Right, but by virtue of living on Zachary they aren't from NBR. Huge cultural and economic gap between blacks in Zachary/Central and blacks in Baton Rouge.

Still impressive and admittedly hard not to look at them and think about trying to replicate the success.

Do you think the scoring has been more strict?

Yeah I was in Boulder at the time and I remember thinking that if my liberal Boulder friends had watched it, they would have thought the white people of Baton Rouge were Klan members. It was a shamefully racist Narrative and slurred the "St George" people in the basest way. I oppose "St George" but I want NO PART of that shite. I know my neighbors a lot better than a Frontline producer does.

My honest belief is that 90% of people on BOTH SIDES have good intentions and clean consciences.(don't get me started on the other 10%) I have come to my conclusion based on a combination of self-interest and what I believe the end result will be. And I have ZERO animus for any of my neighbors who disagree.

Reames239, you are buying into the lies of the St. G leaders. Lie #1, Ebrpss is the worst, most dangerous school district in the country. Fact, Ebrpss is ranked in the middle of state rankings and ranks in the top 25% of large urban districts nationally. Lie #2, you can not get a quality education in Ebrpss. Fact, Ebrpss has consistantly produced more National Merit and Advanced Placement scholars than all of the ISDs and private schools in EBR combined. Lie #3, taxes won't go up. Fact, The state constitution will require the area to continue to fund parish offices as well as establish several municipal offices. More govt= more taxes. Also, the individual school scores have not improved (considering overall growth in ebr and state scores) since leaving ebr. Central High and Zachary High were both A schools when they were in Ebrpss.

Lie 4, We Are Better Together. The fact is children in the EBRSS aren't together, they are separated and you have a duel system of sorts.

The fortunate kids get in a magnet school or in a gifted program. The others get to go to inferior schools, with inferior teachers and students who need to be removed from mainstream schools.

Lie #5, we now have neighborhood schools; but when you look at a map and see the high school districts you see that is completely false. The same applies somewhat to the middle schools and elementary schools and that's why we still have fleets of busses crisscrossing the parish.

Lie #6 EBRSS isn't that bad, it ranks in the middle of the other state public school system. The fact is La. as a state ranks near the bottom. If you are happy that we are in the middle of the pack statewide in a state near the bottom, then fine; however, I'm not happy. Not after the parish leaders promised me much more before I voted substantial tax increases for better schools, better teachers, and better school discipline.

At this point I continue to support St. George simply because I do not want a dime of my tax dollars going to downtown development.

I went to private school and so will my kids. I could not care less about the public school aspect of this. I just think Baton Rouge is becoming far too liberal and am happy to break away from it without actually moving.

Solid rationale. Which projects specifically have you outraged?

No. At first they used Exit Exam, ileap, graduation rate, and attendance rate. Then they stopped giving the ileap at high schools. Then the exit exam was replaced with end of course tests. Now they added ACT scores and diploma endorsements (AP scores).

I think 100% of any development should be done by the private sector. The government should only exist to protect our personal and property rights. Everything else should be left to the private sector.

Even little things piss me off, such as paying for a pavilion for some downtown concert or somesuch. And I hope no government money went toward painting those hideous murals on building facades downtown.

SEBR has two blue ribbon schools which are not magnet schools. A majority of the schools in SEBR are either A or B schools, plus parents have the option of sending their kids to magnet schools.

Did you stay at a hotel in downtown Baton Rouge? If not, you didn't pay into the dedicated tax that pays for things like the pavilion.

Did you donate money to the BR Walls Project? If not then you didn't pay for any of it.

Still should not be happening. The very idea of a hotel tax pisses me off. Force every one spending the night here to help pay the mayor/city council's slush fund. It is criminal.

What about the Downtown Development District or the Redevelopment Authority? Where do the funds for that come from? Honest question.

The return on a hotel tax might be one of the highest returns of all taxes. Fancy, new hotels mean more people visiting and spending money in that area lessening the need for high taxes elsewhere.

I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel without a "hotel" tax.

I kind of agree but I've never heard of a downtown that didn't have a hotel tax.

True, but I abhor the mentality of "everyone else is doing it" or "that's how it has always been done." In business and in life, I actively try to root out and destroy those practices/policies.
