At this stage and age of his career, why Chief would want to teach Tejas soft 7-on-7 campers how to smashmouth D is beyond me?
It is the chore for a younger man imho. Boom,etc..was needed. TAM's D and the lost momentum since Wrecking Crew days long ago..gonna take a tenure to teach and infirm into the culture.
All the while married to HUNH/Spread gadget finesse O/Sumlin putting his Defensive troops right back on the field whether three-&-out or two minute TD drives.
It's a problem in that state from the bottom-up and from the top-down. Patterson and Strong can only do so much, it's gonna require the Texas HS coaches too.
Teasip Soft isn't just a UT thing that Charlie Strong was hired to fix..it's a statewide epidemic!

The interesting part of threads like these is: 1) ppl seem to think Chavis would never leave and 2) they certainly don't flip on him and tell him to GTFO because he sucks.

That's true. Getting Chavis will mean nothing if LSU continues to spank TAMU like a child every year.
I just bumped this because all of the LSU fans were as delusional in thinking Chavis would never leave...and of course had his new amazing 1.33m contract.

I didn't post in the original thread but I think he will help pull talent but it's gonna take a few years of recruiting to get the talent he needs on D. That plus the matchup with Sumlins O and his age makes me shake my head. Money talks though.
You are a fool if you don't think many LSU fans werent familiar with third and chavis. Still hes a solid coodinator and we will miss him.

I don't care what Jim Klienpeter says or any Aggie. The facts stand that LSU didn't match 1.67 million guaranteed over 4.
Right now as we stand, Aggies are pot committed. If Sumlin and Chavis don't work........which I give a 50/50 chance right now, you aren't going to be able to recover from this move for @ least 5 years following.
So by 2017 if Sumlin hasn't won 10 games, you will owe a DC 3.2 million and sumlin around 12.....

But let's look at some numbers just so we are clear. This is the 3rd down % conversions allowed for a 1st down on the defensive side.
TAMU - LSU
2014 40.0 - 36.4
2013 41.0 - 38.3
2012 32.2 - 31.9
2011 40.44 - 33.97
2010 35.87 - 34.66
