I currently have an ATV2 jailbroken, running XBMC Frodo. I'm streaming HD movies and TV shows from 2 3TB NAS external HDs. I use Hulu Plus, Netflix, HBO Go, & WatchESPN.

The ATV2 is REALLY starting to show it's age.

What should I replace it with, Tech Board?

I run refurb ROKU's in my bedrooms and living room. Have PLEX on each that reads from the plex server running on the HTPC in the theater room.

Gives me netflix, hulu, pandora, hbogo, and access to all my content on the htpc. The refurb roku's typically can be had for $50-60 on woot or newegg, they're normally $99 each retail.

You may want to recheck that. Hbogo app was released last week.

For xbmc, amazon fire tv runs it like a champ. I have both the box and stick and would recommend the box

This. I only have the stick and love it, but would strongly consider the box if I ever wanted to upgrade. Having XBMC (or TVMC) is great

Amazon has a very locked down ecosystem. I would go with Roku or even Google TV. LINK

I've got a FireTV that is rooted. Not sure if the newest-released boxes are capable of that (depends on what firmware is on the boxes when they ship) but it is a beast. And now HBO Go is available so I can't think of a reason not to get one. Rooted allows you to hook up an external drive for XBMC and install the play store (which is hit or miss as far as apps) but the thing is snappy as all get out.

Same here.

You ever find a workable sports app? I think sportsdevil was TKO'd. I saw others mentioning "Digital Sports" but haven't tried it yet.

Not yet. I came to the same conclusion about sports devil.
I setup something that has over 2000 random channels, can't remember the name though, many of which are sports, but it's not easy to navigate and not all the channels work.
Still doing some research.

Just ordered an Amazon Fire TV for my brother in law. How do I get XBMC and Plex on it?

LINK

I used 6b and 8a. I'm assuming it's the same for the box vs. the stick.

Step 1 LINK

The process is the same for the stick and box version

Step 2**** Also once XBMC/ TVMC is installed, use the below link to install Llama which allows you to configure a redirect where the app shows up on the home screen instead of having to pull up from the settings menu each time

LINK

Step 3- getting the XBMC Logo on your home page

Anyone have experience with a dedicated xbmc box like LINK?

Would this be any better than side loading xbmc onto a fire TV?

In the steps, it tells you to choose Classic TV as the condition...that's not an option that I see. Any ideas?
