"During the pre-draft process, the New Orleans Hornets had zeroed in on Davis and Lilliard, hoping to draft both and make them the cornerstones of the franchise. This was a realistic scenario and likely wouldn't have happened if Lillard's stock hadn't significantly increased it the weeks leading up to the draft . . . .

The Hornets' front office worked out many players but it was clear that Davis and Lillard were their two primary targets. New Orleans hoped that Lillard wouldn't climb into the top 10 because they loved the idea of having their point guard and big man of the future. They thought Davis and Lillard complemented one another nicely. . . . ."

I mean, that's great and all that they wanted him

Well, Lillard worked out with other teams as well. Pellies FO isn't the only one with an eye for talent.

I believe Lillard made something crazy, something along the lines of making 54 of 55 consecutive jump shots at his workout with the Kings.

What I'm saying is, no, I don't think the organization was close to landing him. If not the Blazers, someone else would have drafted him before 10, IMO.

I think I can figure it out. Maybe that'll be my Sunday afternoon project.

We almost could have had Drummond too.

In hindsight trading the 2013 1st to move up to Portland or Toronto's spot would have been well worth it. Fans of the team would have been outraged at the time though.

I would have been thrilled to move up to get Lillard. Some questions about competition, but he was a far better prospect than Rivers to me. Drummond was trickier, but after the top 3 he was worth a flyer for a team without a center.

10+Jack and top 8 protected 2013 for 6 and Babbitt ( )? Or 10+Jack for 8? Not sure where Detroit goes at 9 w/o Drummond on the board though.
