This statement says it all. If your pup can have a relatively pain free life and get around try the wheelchair. If the vet tells you that she'll be in pain the rest of her life it's time to let her go.

Pets hold a special place in our lives. Do what's best for her.

Best wishes.

Did I miss something?

How old is she?
What are the vets saying?
Why would a second surgery be an option unless they thought it was a condition that could be reversed?
What disease? Did they see something in blood work?

Sorry for you trouble, but give us the real info and maybe someone can help. Keep you feelings aside (try to) and give an honest assessment of the situation.

A difficult situation for you and your family. We've been there. I feel for you.

How old is Bean? As another poster asked, does the vet have an explanation what happened after she was apparently healthy and active and then took a turn for the worse? You used the word "disease". Is it a disease or might it just be an injury following the surgery that, if corrected, she could enjoy life again?

Sorry for the questions but I'm asking because if the vet says she has a chance with more treatment, I'll volunteer to front some $$ for you to get her healthy again. Thanks.

Vets said she might have inverted disc disease, said the pain will eventually go away after the inflamation and soreness is gone. She is on metacam and pain meds. She has been resting the past week. Her pain isnt so bad that when you pick her up she whines. She hurts but she is basically just in paralysis. She is 6 years old.

So basically with the Inverted Disc disease if we get the surgery done again, it could happen again.

TN, I had to come to a decision recently with my dog. She was a great dog, but in a similar situation yours is in. We elected to not have the surgery, because no guarantees. It was certainly one of the toughest days of my life. I will pray for you.

As much as I love my dog, I would not let her suffer for my benefit.

If Bean can be "cured" (whatever that means), don't let the cost issue be the only thing preventing it from happening. My offer to help her stands.

If the dog isn't in pain, you could try diapers and underpads and wait to see if it clears up. As another poster mentioned, they also make doggie wheelchairs. I've seen a couple of dogs who use those and appeared to be just as happy as normal dogs.
