Southernplayalisticcadillacmuzik Outkast vs. ATLiens and Aquemini Outkast.

When I first saw the video for Players Ball, Outkast's first single on BET's Rap City I was blown away and loved the song. It seems after their hit "Elevators" they appealed to a teeny bop more mainstream audience.

Slightly off-topic, but André is actually a passable actor. He had a couple of guest spots on The Shield and held his own compared to that show's excellent cast.

ATLiens

Do you really think ATLiens was mainstream? I never thought of it that way.

Can you be more specific? In what way do you mean they were mainstream? Are there particular songs that you have in mind?

Interestingly, OutKast had a song titled "Mainstream" on the ATLiens album - OutKast - Mainstream

To me, it's an ironic title in the context of mainstream music because I don't think it is/was mainstream in that sense.

Over the years, OutKast definitely changed their music and did become more mainstream (especially from around 2000 onward), but I never had an issue with that. They liked to change things up and be different, and I usually expect growth and change from certain artists over time anyway. I think they mostly improved as they changed their styles.

None of their albums will mean more than Southern play a list is but skillwise, sound wise and just pure greatness wise, Aquemini is the best Outkast album. They were so tight, organized and zoned in on that album. Also was the graduation of Andre from good mc with great potential to just a master of his art. He was on point on that album. Had many moments before but was never so technical and lyrical as he was on Aquemini. He owned that shite from his first verse on the album

I agree with you for the most part. Aquemini has a legitimate claim for best Outkast album.

ATLiens is the clear #3

Aquemini was their best record and it's really not even close, although i enjoy the earlier work too.

Aquemini is the greatest hip hop record of all time IMO.
