I wasn't making the case that we should/shouldn't have "normalized" relations. I think we should normalize, but only AFTER they make specific PUBLIC concessions.

Great idea for torpedoing the end of the embargo, needlessly continuing to punish the ordinary citizens of Cuba, and insuring the power of the regime.

While we all make cigar jokes and look forward to $50 hotels and an endless supply of "perfect 10" $20 hookers in Havana, let's stop to remember who these guys are.

It's strange to read something from a 2014 American who appears to hesitate from sashaying down to Havana to blow a commie cock before KFC takes over. Hurry Pimp! Quickly! Quickly! If you miss out now, you'll have to go to Bolivia to see that level of poverty. Take a fricking Che Guevara T shirt with you.

If you went through CERE training in the 80s, you heard many tales about Fidel. I hope he got a portion of what he dished out.

Yes, we did. All wars are dirty, though. Some are more dirty than others. Regardless of who wins, civilians lose.

(FTR, the leadership never condoned that and we did pursue and at least attempt to punish troops who did things like this. Much of that was for naught, but does the other side even make a show of it? Or do they reward and promote their war criminals?)

So we are at fault for the conditions for the Cuban citizens? Don't they have the entire world they can trade with?

The regime was staggering and Obama gave it a diplomatic triumph.

The US is torturing innocent people in Cuba right now. I hope the locals there can see the difference between the people of the US and the government; I sure see the difference in Cuba.

Wish I could have heard the philosophical ramblings of Castro when he saw the Berlin Wall falling. I'm guessing it was something like a Wall St whore reading the newspaper to find her sugar daddy was in handcuffs.

Waterboarding or just making them stay up past bedtime? People like you are a joke. I guess all the folks raiding the stores in Russia now before the ruble goes through the floor are victims as well.

I think the premise is incorrect because I think your definition of 'torture' is skewed, so no, I don't plan to jump down that rabbit hole.

Sounds like W and Obama. If the people murdered were Pakistani school children the board would be for sending them economic stimulus.

Troof!

I just wonder if Obama's gonna do a deep bow before he lets Castro address The House.

Your snarkiness is noted. We probably don't disagree on this point very much. My point was only the very logical point that we hold the cards and we should get some concessions from that tyrannical government about how they treat their people and how they conduct their affairs in the hemisphere. We did just that with Vietnam and other nations. We made demands. They conceded. We then normalized. The order in which that is done, has a LOT to do with how "normalization" plays out long term.

The feeling has long been that we would normalize relations AFTER Castro died. But because Obama wants this to happen on his watch, it's happening now, a bit prematurely, and without maybe getting the concessions we want. I'm holding out hope that some of these concessions , which are in the best interest of Cuban freedom, will be revealed over time.

I see this as the slow pivot from considering normalizing relations with Cuba as a good thing in general to well obama did it and it was wrong because he didn't do it the "right way".

Exposing nearly 100 people, now cleared for release, to hypothermia. God bless the USA... Murdering taxi drivers and convincing the idiots you're preventing another 9/11.

As we celebrate our new relationship with Cuba, let's take a moment to remember this forgotten chapter of US/Cuban relations. These guys didn't pay lip service to "enhanced interrogations" they beat you until you bled out and died. They were sadists first and intelligence officers second. And it's just a TINY FRACTION of what they did to the Cuban people, tens of thousands of whom were tortured and killed.

One of my coworkers and a good friend immigrated from Cuba when he was about 9. He saw one of his uncles shot in front of him because he got into an argument about how much money he should hand over to Castro's soldiers from his family business.
