Why hasn't Celine been mentioned?

Linda Ronstadt ( who, sadly, has lost her voice due to Parkinson's). There is absolutely NO way Whitney Houston could have done an album of standards from the Great American Songbook, much less two, and then throw in a Spanish language album (Canciones de mi Padre). Ronstatdt's voice was every bit as strong as Whitney's. She could sing many more styles than Whitney could.
Adele has a chance to be every bit as good as Whitney, and probably better. Whitney did not have the control of her voice early on that Adele has at such a young age. Whitney was controlled by her voice, early on. Adele's upcoming album will determine her trajectory. I think Adele has the ability to be much more diverse in her styles of music. Adele also writes a lot of her songs, which I don't think Whitney was known for.

There is no denying that Whitney Houston had a transcendant voice--one that comes along once a generation. She inherited the mantle from Ronstadt (IMHO). Celine Dion was a contemporary rival (and obviously, very VERY talented), but not quite as good as Whitney. Adele picked up the torch (no pun intended) that once belonged to Whitney. She is "The Voice" until some new kid comes along.

I'd put LeAnn Rimes in the same class.
