Except they don't get paid for that time off.
I don't get paid on days I'm not scheduled to work either.

Yes and no. I suppose the annual salary number i'm satisfied with given I get summer offs is reasonable. My only wish is I got paid for the amount of work I put in outside of 7:30-3:30 M-F as I frequently lose sundays to planning and stay around after 3:30. However I don't see any reasonable solution to that.

The evaluations/bonuses, at least in my county, are iffy at best. For instance, the teacher who works their arse off and is clearly a great teacher to everyone in the school doesn't get a bonus. However, the teacher who will miss at least 2 days a week will get a bonus just because of 2 observations.

Considering they get the summer off, lots of holidays and get great benefits like for buying a home and their retirement options...hell no.

Of course. But so are many other professions that are tougher and more dangerous. So they should just STFU

I'd be down to pay them more

but then the curriculum needs to be more challenging for them while in undergraduate school, and maybe even should require a Masters in Education.

Too many shitty teachers out there to just say they all deserve a pay raise.

It's a crappy situation with shitty teachers and unreal expectations applied to them. The good ones are tasked with fixing kids because their parents didn't do a good job. I have a different job and have to deal with fixing dumb, stupid, and oblivious all the time. All that being said, they have a lot of benefits and time off. Need to make more money? Get a part time job during the summer.

No doubt a product of the current educational system.

Depends on where they work and the population they deal with IMO. There should be some additional incentives for teachers that are teaching their asses off at high poverty, low scoring schools where they're pretty much raising kids as well as trying to educate them.

You can add Special Education teachers and English as a Second Language teachers to that as well. The "gains" with those kids don't always show up in what testing benchmark you met this year.

Overpaid as a whole. Too many lazy arse ones who go just to collect a check and the union not allowing much performance accountability.

My kids had school until 11:00 today. Yesterday they played half a day and ate paste for the other half. I will have them at home for the next two weeks. yes the teachers work too hard for those coins.

Not here.

I'd argue that good teachers are underpaid and bad teachers are overpaid. If they want to be paid on merit, you'd have some pretty well compensated teachers in the Lou.
