A lot of Friday night meals there back in the day.

I heard CHS bought most of the lot and are converting it into some sort of practice field

Yep. I left RHS for Central. Close to home.. Not in the ghetto.. Way better academics.. And not a few thousand dollars..

Oh yeah. Completely awful. I'm surprised we never got sick. Just good memories. And I heard that, too. It'll be good because that whole area behind CHS was sketchy and ugly as frick.

I lived next door to Catholic in BR and was not even two blocks away from the ghetto. Where is Redemptorist, exactly?

The "ghetto" near catholic is very minor. It's a mixed race area, and a lot of rich people live around there. I went to Baton Rouge high-some would call that the ghetto but it was on the fringe, and I never really felt threatened there, including when I parked in the neighborhood off campus every day.

The ghetto near redemptorist is much, much worse. It's a strange place really- in all of north Baton Rouge, which is like 99% black, there is a little pocket, with Tony's seafood and the neighborhood that redemptorist is in (on the other side of plank- st. Gerard and the surrounding streets) that is relatively safe. That is to say some older whites and well to do blacks still live there, and Tony's is frequented by people all over the city. But it's a very small pocket, and go a few blocks away and you are in straight br hood.

Now that redemptorist is gone, I could see that being the final nail in the coffin for the neighborhood.

Istrouma is gone too.

2 long time schools gone within a year of each other.

I'm surprised that Capitol High is still making it. They were on the chopping block for a while.

I hope this doesn't effect Hill's game Monday night. I need a strong showing from him for my fantasy team.

CHS is in an old, mixed race area. It certainly isn't in an affluent area. In fact it never was.

There are nicer older subdivisions off Claycut across Acadian and then there's the Garden District not too far away, but most of the homes around CHS are modest wood homes, and then there's old commercial areas to the immediate north.

It's certainly not in the best neighborhood.
